Dear Members and Friends: NOTE: This event will run Rain or Shine !!
Our next event is the Ashtabula County Covered Bridge Cruise on Sunday, October 14th. We will meet at the McDonalds at I-90 and Route 45 (exit 223) at 10:00 am and will depart from there at 10:30and go to the Covered Bridge Festival at the Ashtabula County Fairgrounds in Jefferson Ohio (near Routes 307 and 46).
We have FREE admission to the Fair for the first two occupants of each car. Additional riders will have t hide in the trunk or pay a $3 entrance fee.
We will have a munchies meet and greet at the fair until about 12:30, so bring something to share. Everyone will be given maps and instructions for the self-guided Covered Bridge Cruise. It will NOT be possible for all of us to leave at the same time and descend on the covered bridges due to the limited parking available at each bridge, so we will leave in small groups.
Most of the covered bridges are on GRAVEL roads. For those of you who might not want to drive, there will be Van Tours leaving from the fairgrounds, at frequent intervals. Cost is $7 per rider. The Van Tours do NOT go to every covered bridge.
We have special instructions for you on how to avoid the worst of the gravel roads, and how you can see three more bridges that are not on the route we will be taking. IThe special nstructions will be handed out to those who bring munchies.
There will be FOOD and CRAFTS at the Fair and at most of the 11 covered bridges along the 66-mile route. It normally takes 2.5 hours to drive, but will probably take longer on this day. You can stay at the fair or at the bridges for as long as, or as little as you like. There is no way to judge the parking and driving time…so you kind of have to wing it.
We will meet again at 5:00 pm to have dinner together at the Clay Street Inn, located on the corner of Clay Street and Route 45 - about 500 feet from the McDonalds where we first met. It is very close to I-90 and Route 45……a mile or so North of Route 307.
Reservations have been made for 40 of our closest PT Friends.
