On a beautiful fall evening in downtown Mayfield Heights, Ohio, the North Coast PT Cruisers assembled for the second-last Weekly Cruise-In of the 2001 season. Next Monday will be the final SCHEDULED weekly Cruise-In for this year. If the weather is decent, it is expected that some of the faithful will gather at our usual spot on Monday evenings to pay homage to our wonderful cars and dream about what we are going to do next year. Don’t bet that than no one will shop up after next Monday…but who knows?
As usual, we opened by asking for a show of hands from newbies…. and a couple from nearby South Euclid raised their hands. Nancy Jo had spotted them in her neck of the woods, flagged them down at a stoplight, and shoved a flyer under their windshield wipers (or something like that). Lo and behold, they showed up – and they ordered a pair of T-Shirts, so we know they will probably be back again at least once.
Our friend from South Amherst (Steve M.) was back again tonight, and also attended our Sunday Fall Fun Fest….so we think he is a “keeper” too. The Inferno Red with the wide whitewalls and shiny chrome hubcaps returned also, and can’t be considered a newbie anymore. He came over and introduced himself…but danged, CRS has set in and we can’t remember his name. Give us another shot at next week – we promise to do better. And our friends from Painesville with the fantastic yellow-flamed black beauty returned to spend some time with us so we could get to know them better and vice versa.
We are still taking orders for our gorgeous white T-shirts. We need to have a minimum quantity of 50 in order to place an order. So far, about 20 have been ordered. The base price of the T-Shirts is $15 each. Proceeds from the sale will go to the American Red Cross. You can order the shirts at our Monday Cruise-Ins, or via email or US mail. Payment must be made with your order. You can send a check payable to:
Linda Dicker
POB 28
Novelty, Oh 44072
Or, you can make payment via PayPal to: marvdicker@aol.com.
You can specify the color of the car. You will receive a shirt with a red car if no color is specified. Cost is as follows:
$15.00 - sizes Small, Medium, Large, or XL
$16.50 - size XXL
$18.00 - size XXXL
$19.50 - size XXXXL
$5.00 - Shipping via USPS Priority mail for up to 4 shirts (if desired)
Donna Noal gave a report on our Sunday Fall Fun Fest. It was well attended and everyone including the spectators at the park had a very nice time. A separate report on this event has been prepared and can be found on the Internet. We thanked Donna and Linda for the work they put in to make this a success. Forgot to thank Ken W. and his fiancée for their hard work also, and just in case we missed anyone…Sorry!!!
Stefanie gave a report on the Nelsonville Red Cross Sonic Cruise. Thirty-five cars showed up on a beautiful day. No Rain at all. Almost $700 was raised for the Red Cross, including the $226 donated by the North Coast PT Cruisers.
We presented Nancy Jo with the trophy that had been won at the Grape Jamboree Parade, but she declined to accept it because she already had a trophy, and the nice purple color of the trophy clashed with her Patriot Blue. She asked me to keep it, but I already have a trophy, and this one would also clash with my Inferno Red. What to do ?
Ah Ha!! We called PT-Flash to the podium and asked him to raise his right hand. “Do you PT-Flash promise to love, cherish and wax this trophy with Zaino until it shines like your beautiful Cranbaby Cruiser?” we asked him. “I do” said the FlashMeister. “In remembrance of your record-setting stunt of losing all 29 cars following you at the Parade, I now pronounce you Man and Trophy” I replied. He grabbed that baby and walked away with the Biggest Smile You Have Ever Seen!
At about that point in the meeting the Chrysler Road Side Assistance car pulled in and unlocked the doors of Carolyn N.’s Patriot Blue Cruiser. Many of us had thought that Carolyn had accidentally locked her car keys in, and intentionally left the spare key at home. But this was not the case. Carolyn had INTENTIONALLY locked the car keys in as a FAVOR to all of us.. This was a TEST to see A: If any of our keys would unlock her car (they couldn’t) and B: A test to see how long it would take for the Chrysler Road Side Assistance person to show up. It only took 35 minutes from the time of the call to get the car unlocked. So, all of you who said (or thought) unkind things about Carolyn please take them back…. she did this FOR US! Thank you, Carolyn!
Our Season Finale - Coats For Kids / Red Cross Benefit Cruise-In - will be held from noon to 5pm. on Sunday, October 28th at our regular meeting place behind TGI Friday’s in the Golden Gate Plaza Shopping Center in Mayfield Heights.
IF THE WEATHER IS BAD (OR EVEN NOT NICE) THE EVENT IS CANCELLED, BUT SOMEONE WILL BE THER (PT-MD AND NANCY JO) TO COLLECT THE COATS.
This event is FREE and open to ALL Cars. Donations for Coats for Kids and the American Red Cross will be accepted. Once again, the Fabulous (HiYo) Silver, Man !! will be our Super DJ. He will be spinning OLDIES and promises to play one Country Western Song. An article about this event should appear in the Sunday Plain Dealer. Bring some MUNCHIES to share just like we did on Labor Day
Our first dinner meeting will be on November 12th at 7:00 pm at Buca Di Bepo’s a kitschy Italian Restaurant in the Golden Gate Shopping Center, very close to where our regular Monday Night Cruise-Ins take place. We will be served a buffet dinner…. all you can eat. Price has yet to be determined, but should be about $15 per person if the don’t find out about how much Emerson and I eat.
More than 40 people have signed up. We need a head count in order to determine how many people can be expected to attend. This looks like a BIGGIE….so please sign up or send me an email if you would like to attend. Our December Dinner place has not yet been determined
On November 18th we will go bowling at a place to be determined. Dinner at 5pm will be at George’s Famous Dinner Bell Restaurant near Painesville. It is located on Route 84 about 2 miles east of I-90. In December, we will be touring Stan Hywet in the Akron area, and in January, we will be touring the Browns’ Stadium. Dinner will be after those events.
We have finalized our event schedule for the winter hibernations as follows: Beginning with December, we will have Monday night dinner meetings on the FIRST Monday of every month, and a social activity / dinner on the THIRD Sunday of the month. The full schedule has not been determined, but you can get an idea from the notes, above.
The meeting ended about 8pm. About 8:30 pm the last cars left the parking lot. Nine cars wound up at the Bob Evans (across the street) for pie and coffee. It was too dark to take any pictures this evening.
See What You Are Missing? Don’t you wish you could “Hang With The North Coast PT Cruiser Gang” ?
The North Coast PT Cruisers meet every Monday evening from 6:00 to 10:00 pm in the rear parking lot, behind TGI Friday, at 1641 Golden Gate Plaza, in Mayfield Heights, Ohio (44124) at the very rear of the shopping center. Last meeting of this year is on October 29th.
To get there from I-271 (north or south) get off at the RT 322 West (Mayfield Road). Turn left at the SECOND traffic light and enter the Golden Gate Plaza Shopping Center. Proceed to the very rear of the plaza, past the Goodyear Tire store. As you approach TGI Friday, stay in the lanes to the right of the building and proceed all the way to the back. Bring a lawn chair and some PT toys to decorate your rear shelf.
If you are familiar with the area, you can also enter from Marsol Drive, which runs parallel to Mayfield Road.
