Oil Question Can't Post

This is my first post and I'd like to say hello to all members and at the same time ask a question that has probably been asked a thousand times already but I need an answer.

I just bought a 2007 PTC w/ 35000 miles on it and I would like to go to synthetic oil but I have heard that changing from regular oil after a certain amount of miles to synthetics can cause problems. i.e. leaks etc.

Any info or help? How about recommendations for the best synthetics?

I have no idea what the previous owner was using so I thought I'd better ask. Thanx.

Re: [Striker] Oil Question Can't Post

I've had no problem using Mobil 1 after switching over at about the same mileage on my 01 that now has 48,000 miles on it.

Re: [ptgeebee] Oil Question Can't Post

I changed my 04 PT to Mobil 1 Extended Mileage at around 78,000 miles. 20,000 miles later, no problems. My wife's 07 went to normal Mobil 1 at the first oil change.

Re: [Striker] Oil Question Can't Post

there will be no problem at all changing over to synthetic. You can change back and forth between synthetic and regular oil at any time you like with no ill effects... but most people will advise to basically stick with the same oil through out the cars life...

with older cars changing to synthetic wouldn't cause an oil leak, it's that the oil works, flows and cleans so much better than regular oil that any leaks that were already there but were covered up by dirt and gunk would be exposed, so it would look like a new leak...

Changed to Mobil1 Synthetic at about 50,000 miles and no problems so far after a year and about 10,000 miles. I also use Mobil1's oil filter which is made specifically for Synthetic oil. It actually heavier than a normal filter. K&N also has a great filter for synthetic use.

If you compare the Mobil 1 filter to the K&N, you'll see they are the identical filter with the exception that the K&N has the 1" hex head attached to the end of the can to make it easier to remove. Other than that, they are the same filter.

Re: [Striker] Oil Question Can't Post

I had no problems at all switching from regular oil to synthetic. The car smelled weird for a few days the first time I did it, but that's all. I've been using it for several years now.

Thanks everyone. Glad to know this.

I'm relieved. I'll switch at the next change.
