Oil through crank sensor Can't Post

My wife's PT has oil going through Crank position sensor. The car was starting intermittently and running rough and I narrowed it to the CPS. I pulled it out and it had oil in the connector socket. I put in a new crank sensor and it ran like a new car. I thought it was fixed but a few days later it was back to not starting. I pulled the CPS again and it was again full of oil. I broke the old crank sensor apart and the whole inside was soaked with oil. I thought maybe the oil pressure was too high so I got a mechanical oil pressure gauge and hooked it up. It idles cold at 75 psi. Reving to about 2500 rpm will peg the meter off the scale of 100psi. I know the Haynes manual says 25-80 psi and I'm assuming 80 max regardless of temperature. Anyone have insight into what the problem is here? Is the oil pressure too high? After fully warmed up the oil pressure maxes out around 87 PSI. Ryan.

My manual says you should have 4 psi at idle, engine at operating temp and 25-80 psi at 3000 RPM.

sounds like you have a bad pressure relief valve on the
oil pump, sounds like its stuck closed. its built into the oil pump
at the timing belt end of the crank. Hope i helped ya!!

Yes thanks I haven't had many anwers that weren't generic. I have seen this problem mentioned but no one is really speaking up about what actually fixed it. I'm assuming the pressure relief is the problem just like you say. Tearing into it that deep is more than I want to mess with so I took it to a mechanic. I will be sure to post what the actual problem turns out to be and hopefully it will help others with the same problem.

Just wondering if you ever got this fixed. Didn't see a reply post of what the problem was. Thanks

The fix was to get rid of the car, as far as the actual problem it remains unknown. The shop I took it too didn't even want to work on it and the car was too much trouble overall so it's gone.
