Overheating issues? Can't Post

Hi,

I am new to the forum. I have a 2001 PT and have had a lot of problems with it overheating....I had a compression check done and they said that my engine is getting too much pressure, and that it makes the coolant spill over as a safety measure, making my car get too hot. Anyone else have this problem and if so, how was it fixed? ....and was it an expensive repair? I love my Cruiser, but I need a dependable car!

Re: [Kaleikat] Overheating issues? Can't Post

Welcome to the forum.

I'm no expert, but there are a few easy ways to check for a problem.

If the coolant and radiator are full then check the radiator cap for any signs of leakage such as dry streaks. It is also good to check the engine oil to make sure it is dark like oil and nothing else.
Another thing to check is to see if both the high and low speed fan relays are working. If the fan goes on when the air-conditioner is on and if the fan goes on when the car has warmed up then the fan is working. This last bit is a little more intense and expensive and may need to be checked on by a dealer. As far as a pressure build up in the cooling system, there can be a couple of things, one of which is a bad thermostat and the other is a plugged radiator. What kind of coolant are you using? The last culprit could be a water pump that has gone bad.

Remember to check everything cold, the last thing that anyone would want is to have an accident.
Like I always say, go the cheap way first and then work your way up the price ladder.

Maybe I don't fully understand...

A compression check is something done to the engine cylinders. Do you mean that you had the pressure of the cooling system checked? My first thought would be the thermostat. They can stick and not open completely...
