PT Convertible - legroom in back seat

Hi... does anyone have an specs on how much leg room will be in the back seat of the PT cruiser Convertible? One of the reasons I like the PT cruiser is because the backseat is actually usable.... From the convertible photos, it's difficult to tell how much, if any, leg room there will be in the back... I'd be willing to go 2 door if there's still room for people to sit back there... Thanks in advance! -Tom ----------

I'd be willing to bet that you will have enough room for 2 ten year olds (if they're not "big boned") They're already suggesting it's going to be a 4 seater. Which to me translates into 2 people and 2 bags of groceries. My plugged nickel. ---------- UB

I have heard that (1) the back seat is as hard as a rock and (2) that if you are over 5'5", you are going to have a hard time sitting in the back. Sounds like you better plan on it being for two people only. I hope this is not true..... maybe someone who has seen to proto can let us know for sure. ---------- Jack Smith (Smittys PT) Webmaster Colorado Cruiser Club

Smitty: On Sunday, 09/07/2003, I had the opportunity to see and then sit (front seat only) in an inferno red PT Cruiser Convertible prototype at the Chrysler Route 2003 event at the Bluffs Run Casino in Council Bluffs, IA. Neat car except for the bolt-upright rear seat backs (near 90 degree angle) that do not look to be comfortable to sit in for any length of time. The Patriot Blue 1/18th scale model that I have of the PT Cruiser Convertible, and the full scale production New Beetle Convertible out on the streets now, appear to have a more inviting rear seat back angles than that of the PT Cruiser Convertible prototype. I hope this is only a prototype problem that will be corrected, with a real rear seat that will actually hold 2 full-size adults in reasonable comfort, when the production line gets cranked up in January. My wife and I have a newborn (Dillon), and would consider replacing our Miata with a PT Cruiser Convertible, but only if the PT Cruiser Convertible comes with a real rear seat. Without a real rear seat, the appeal for the PT Cruiser Convertible will be limited to fewer potential buyers. I haven't seen the proto of the PT Convertible yet, but am anxiously awaiting the opportunity. I currently have a 2003 VW New Beetle Convertible along with my Turbo PT. The back seat in the VW is pretty roomy, considering the size of the car. I've had adults back there who said they were comfortable, although it was just for trips around town. It's really easy to get in and out because the front seat lifts out of the way. One of the questions I have abou the PT Convertible is concerning access to the back seat. Given the roll bar, it seems like you'd pretty much need to be a contortionist to get in there! ----------

Here in Omaha, there is a top-of-the-line Cool Vanilla GT w/ Autostick, 6-disc CD player, chrome Empire 5-spoke wheels, and MSRP just north of $29,000. After sitting in it (including the back seat), I can report that it is quite comfortable once you get past the front seat back, the front seat seatbelt, and the roll bar. Much better than I anticipated after seeing the Route 2003 prototype in September, as posted here earlier. Certainly a better fit than my Miata, if taking the wife and son along for the ride. I would likely have to sell my Miata and current Cruiser, but I could be sold on one of these PT convertibles if it were a less expensive model and a good deal could be had. Kudos to Daimler-Chrylser for giving the Pop Top PT a real rear seat! ---------- Dave Siders Omaha, NE '05 Cool Vanilla Husker themed PT Cruiser w/ NE plates that read "CRUISE" Member of the Nebraska Cruisers and PTCC

ummm Havent been fortunate enuf to actually see a Cruiser convertible in person here on the east coast yet. However, after viewing several invoices on built cars at dealers around the country, it appears that the first ones will be loaded to the gills and most are north of 29K which I think is rediculous for what it is. And the 19 995K Base will be few and far between according to all the dealers that I have talked to. So will just wait till D/C makes enuf of them that they start to pile up in dealer lots and then go deal on one....Have a great day! ----------

During the test drive my 6'2 husband and I took turns sitting in the back, with no problems for each. He did comment he wouldn't want to drive to Florida back there. I ordered mine as a birthday gift for myself 3/25. The GT 6 cd changer, 17" wheels black all around. The easy closing of the convertible top was great too, one handed ! We have an 88 mustang rag top that you gotta work out before you close. Lol to all you orderees ----------

I just bought a convertible and am very impressed with the room in the back seat, especially for a convertible! I took 2 guys from work to lunch today that are about 6 foot tall and they were shocked that they fit so well in the back seat! It is a little difficult getting back there with the seat belt in the way. But it's a lot better than my Mustang convertible was. No one over 3 foot tall fit in my Mustang! Besides - I bought it to drive! I'm not riding back there!!! ----------

From the photos and pics I am thinking the two 10-year-olds is conservative. Maybe some very small adults, too. Right now in my 02 Dreamer, hubby, who is 6'7" and 330 lbs. can sit comfortably with lots of leg room AND headroom in the backseat. That is pretty awesome for such a small car. Nothing would make me give up my sweetie (SUNSPOT). It is such a versatile vehicle. ----------

I'm 5'11" 200lbs and the back seat of my new PT GT CONV is comfortable enough --though I'll never be in it as long as I can drive it. Overall --a surprising amount of headroom for a rag top. The only "?" about the car is the trunk --the truck lid doesn't come up all the way and get out of the way like on other cars. You have to bend down to put things in. I'm sure they're probably going to put a better trunk opener on it later. Gonna half to for the moms. But this PT is about cruisin with the top down, -not about long-distance four people in the car driving or hauling the relatives. And it flys. PT-C ----------

You are sooooo right. It is NOT about the storage or the comfort in the back seat for long distances. IT IS ABOUT THE CRUISIN'!!!! It is about showing it off . Happy cruising!!! ----------
