PT seats and a bad back Can't Post

I always thought the PT has pretty confortable seating, but had not really given it much thought. Yesterday I woke up with a very sore back (Don't know how I did it - no jokes please), and it just got worse at work until the muscules would clench up and take my breath away. I could hardly move. I could not even type on the computer it hurt so bad. I had to leave work early, because if it kept getting worse, I wasn't sure I would be able to drive myself home. Luckily I drove the PT to work. Perhaps it is my body size, but I found it very easy to get into the car. Once I settle into the seats (reaching for the seat belt was a killer), I had very little pain. The heat from the seats even helped more. The drive home was actually quite pleasant. When I got home it was very easy to swing out of the car. The upright seating, seat hight, and lumbar support really helped my situation. By the way, I am felling better today. I hope none of you have to find out about how comfortable the car really is like me. I thought you would like to know what someone with some real severe back pain thought about the PT. Now if I can figure out how to get that seat out of the car and into my office. I have a very expensive, highly adjustable office chair, but the PT seating is way more comfortable.

I have to agree. I have had back problems since high school, (OK, if you must know, that was 25 years ago), and I absolutely love the seating position and support in the Cruiser. The heated seat and lumbar support weren't available when I bought mine, but the seats seem great as is.

That's one reason I rented one in Florida and drove it for 4 hours straight with no problem before I ordered mine.

Enigma, Glad to hear you are feeling better. I had back surgery almost 2 years ago and it is hard for me to sit anywhere for more than a half hour or so. Our PT is the most comfortable car we have for me to drive. I have the 28f Touring Edition, (no leather or heat ) but the cloth seat is Very supportive. I am 6ft2in tall and weigh about 260 and even with my back problems this car is easy to get in and out of. Take Care, Colt.

I think that you would be most surprised that the amount of money and time devoted to engineering for any car seat, it far outstripps that of any office chair, and I know we are all different, I could only take a couple of hours in the old altima we had, but in the pt I could, have, and will, drive all day without my old back hurting, now it only aches when sat in front of this thing laughing at some of the posts!

I have to agree the seats are very well designed. Having had 4 spinal fusions and MS this is the easiest car to get in and out of for me. The styling hooked me then a neighbor let me drive his for a day(aren't pt people great)..and I ordered one the next. Great to hear others with back problems find it comfortable. Pat

I have thought about doing this as it seems to me that it would be more comfortable tilted back a little. I did this to one of my cars once and it worked fine. I just took the front two bolts out, put in some washers to raise the seat, and put the bolts back in. I haven't checked to see if the PT would be as easy but I don't see why it wouldn't. A rise of just 1/2" makes quite a difference.

If anyone ends up doing this or has done this, do a post and let us know how it worked out.

Yes, I did it about 3 months ago. Real easy to do. Put just over 1/2" rise (about 5 or 6 - 3/8" flat washers)and ended up getting some ~3/8" longer bolts from Kragen. It solved my problem of not enough support under my thighs. Really comfortable now.
Try it, you may like it.
