Paint to cover scratches in ext wood grain?
|
Can't Post

I just bought an 03 PT Woody and LOVE IT! It has one very small scratch in the woodgrain where the paint underneath the grain shows. Does anyone have ideas about how to fix that sans replacing the whole panel? The scratch is about the size of a pin head. I was thinking possibly some type of brown touch up paint? Has anyone ever dealt with this situation before? George Salley Jax, FL Fins Up!

Hi George and welcome from Michigan. My brother has lived in Jacksonville for about 20 yrs and would never move back up here - must be good. Sorry I can't help you with the Woody, just wanted to say hello. Gary ---------- If it's gonna happen - it's gonna happen out there.

I moved to FL from NC in 1999 and have no plans on leaving, unless someone comes through with some righteous cash. ----------

You might want to try a wood filler stick from a hardware store that matches. ----------

Hi George and welcome.Ginny's PT is a 03 Woody and she has used brown nail polish and a washcloth to repair scratches. She uses the brush to go in the direction of the grain and uses the washcloth to add a grain effect by lightly going over the area of applied polish to add a grain effect. The results are quite good and hope I helped you.All the best and God Bless.........Mike ---------- Mike Casabianca His: 2001 Black LE with Auto Transmission, BullDog Signs Flames, WeatherTec wind deflectors, cargo area mat, PT trash can, PT valve stem caps and Dart's coldair intake, chrome tail and headlight bezels, chrome bumper inserts, chrome license plate pillow, chrome fender trim, 1940's retro chrome on front and back fenders, door spears, chrome hatch door trim, chrome gas door, brushed chrome door sills, billet door pins, custom "BlueHaze" dash mat, MRK Group lugnut covers, dome light trim, etc. and the chrome goes on...... Great idea! Any suggestions as to what brand of polish and what shade? I'm proud to say that I don't have a clue as about nail polish! ----------

Hi again .Ginny said you apply a small amount of light brown and dark brown polish and blend together. She said you apply the mixture in a circular fashion and the end effect is a natural knot in the paneling. She just got the two bottles of drug store polish. All the best and God Bless........Mike ---------- Mike Casabianca His: 2001 Black LE with Auto Transmission, BullDog Signs Flames, WeatherTec wind deflectors, cargo area mat, PT trash can, PT valve stem caps and Dart's coldair intake, chrome tail and headlight bezels, chrome bumper inserts, chrome license plate pillow, chrome fender trim, 1940's retro chrome on front and back fenders, door spears, chrome hatch door trim, chrome gas door, brushed chrome door sills, billet door pins, custom "BlueHaze" dash mat, MRK Group lugnut covers, dome light trim, etc. and the chrome goes on...... Thanks! Very helpful. I will try it today. The scratch is really small, so I'm going to use just a dark shade of brown and then go over it with a clear coat. Do you have any more advice as how to maintain the woodgrain finish? ----------

You should keep the polish as with road debris you may need to touch up once in awhile but other than that keep your cruiser clean and waxed and you should be fine .......All the best and God Bless.....Mike ---------- Mike Casabianca His: 2001 Black LE with Auto Transmission, BullDog Signs Flames, WeatherTec wind deflectors, cargo area mat, PT trash can, PT valve stem caps and Dart's coldair intake, chrome tail and headlight bezels, chrome bumper inserts, chrome license plate pillow, chrome fender trim, 1940's retro chrome on front and back fenders, door spears, chrome hatch door trim, chrome gas door, brushed chrome door sills, billet door pins, custom "BlueHaze" dash mat, MRK Group lugnut covers, dome light trim, etc. and the chrome goes on...... I painted the scratch this weekend. I guess I'm not that great of an artist, but it looks better than the white showing through. You don't put wax on the wood grain finish, do you? ----------

Hi.The colored switch covers plate cover front and rear interior door surrounds came from www.mrkgroup.net .The chrome going around the front and rear interior door surrounds came from www.ptboutique.com .The wood plaques covering the visor warning lables as well as the wood gear shift came from my friend David who used to run Old School Designs but he is no longer in buisness. If you order from MRK let Dee know you are a PTCC member because she will give you a 5% discount on you order because she is a vendor member of PTCC.As far as sending pictures, just click on the webshots link,go into Gin's PT and you can view all of them and copy any pics you wish... Hope I helped you out and God Bless.........Mike. Btw I just remembered that a member named leocruiser makes wood rear shelves in whatever wood you wish and people who have ordered them from him are quite happy with the purchase.Take Care.......Mike ---------- Mike Casabianca His: 2001 Black LE with Auto Transmission, BullDog Signs Flames, WeatherTec wind deflectors, cargo area mat, PT trash can, PT valve stem caps and Dart's coldair intake, chrome tail and headlight bezels, chrome bumper inserts, chrome license plate pillow, chrome fender trim, 1940's retro chrome on front and back fenders, door spears, chrome hatch door trim, chrome gas door, brushed chrome door sills, billet door pins, custom "BlueHaze" dash mat, MRK Group lugnut covers, dome light trim, etc. and the chrome goes on......
