Pillars

I just bought a set of chrome pillars to replace those ugly black ones on my 2002 PT But when I was getting ready to pull my old ones off, I realized that the ones on there now, sort of "wrap around the edge(to the inside of the door). where as these new ones don't. They just sit on there flat, and dont' wrap around to the inside. Has anyone else noticed this?, does it become a problem with road dust and rain? Just curious before I take the old ones off...Would it be possible to just sand the old ones down and stick the new ones on top? Any ideas? Any help is always appreciated Thanks ---------- Angie

The chrome pillers are just made to fit over the old ones. The old ones are a mess to take off and the have nuts and bolts that hold them in place. If you did manage to remove them it still wouldn't work, there would be no place to stick them on to. The best thing to do is order new replacement plilers and have them Painted then have some one put them on who knows what there doing. The pillers cost around $22.00 apiece. When I got mine I had them painted the same color as the PT and they also painted my mirrors .It's cheaper that way. ---------- big jim

Thank you for all the kewl suggestions. I've bought the chrome ones already, otherwise the painted idea would have been good too! I've seen somewhere on this board, Mothers Back to Black also helps buff out those streaks on the stock pillars. I haven't stuck mine up there yet, but I may just hold off and wax up those black stock ones and keep them for awhile longer. I can always put the chrome ones on when I get some rims for my car. I'm just about ready to pay it off, then I can start fixing it up! Thanks again Have a wonderful weekend!

You only get one shot at putting them on so make sure that they are lined up, because once you start that's it. ---------- big jim

Actually, not back-to-black but rather a good polish/wax like you would use on the rest of the car will do the trick. the stock pillars are painted metal and not like the plastic of the mirrors or mud flaps. ---------- DC1 #1610--5-speed. Angie, did you put them on yet? How'd it go? I bought a set of the "Revelations" stainless pillar trim on impulse--but now, on further reflection (pun intended), I'm not so sure I'm going to install them. It might be a little too "hot rod" for me. I do like the idea of buying replacement pillar covers and having them painted to match the body color. Where can I get these?

Hey Dave, Nope I haven't put them on yet. Like you I bought mine on impulse! I just upgraded my tires to 18" with some nice (I think ) chrome rims..so I may put them on sooner or later. I waxed up the black ones on there now and it really made a difference. So i'm thinking of waiting awhile. As soon as the rain stops, I'll take some pics and try to post them on here Hope you're enjoying your weekend Angie ---------- Angie

Right... But if replacement pillar covers are so inexpensive, it would make sense to buy them and have them painted instead of leaving the car in the body shop for a couple of days (and paying labor for removal and installation). Then the original pillars could be sold to someone else who wants to do the same thing. My question is, where do you get the pillar covers? From the Mopar dealer?

The stock pillers cost $22.00 from the dealer. If you get a minimum price have your mirrors painted at the same time. It really makes a difference. ---------- big jim

After thinking about it for a while, I decided that the stainless works with my silver paint. I put mine on last weekend.
Take your time when lining them up. Although I was careful, the #2 pillar on my driver's side still ended up sitting a little high relative to the other two. It's not terrible but it bugs me because I have perfectionist tendencies But I'll get over it
