Plugs and wires

I have been reading some of the forum posts regarding Cruiser mileage. I have had my silver '07 less than a month and want to optimize the gas mileage. It seems that plugs and wires, as well as a K & N air filter are places to start. I would like to get some feedback on what plugs and wires I should be looking at. I am also considering whether to change to synthetic oil. I am a stickler for changing my oil every 3000 miles. When I have my service man change the oil for the first time, since I have owned my Cruiser, I want to take a good look at the oil. My Cruiser just turned over 18,000 miles, and I'll probably get it changed in the next week or so. I typically use TropActic 5W-30 in all my vehicles. Any feedback would be appreciated Showmeptgary ----------

There are no magic mpg enhancers out there. If there were then manufacturers would be using them to enhance their fleet's mpg. Keep the car tuned, the tires properly inflated and use a soft foot. The OEM wires are junk so replace them with Cranes, MSD or Magnecor wires. The factory plugs are fine. I use synthetic oil in all of my cars, but if you are going to change every 3k no matter what then synthetic would be a waste of money. I use Mobil 1 and change every 6k per dealers instructions. Have fun with your car. ---------- 2005 Stone White SRT4 2004 Graphite Auto

Thanks to both of you. I'll keep them in mind when I decide to go forward with the changes.

The only way mileage will improve by changing spark plugs and wires is if they replace defective plugs/wires. Manufacturers design ignition systems to optimize engine performance and heat transfer efficiency. High quality plugs and wires will insure greater longevity and less chance of plug/wire break down. There is a simple rule. Modifying to improve power must include the realization that more fuel will be required. More power can come from intake/exhaust modifications at the expense of poorer fuel mileage. Remember, keeping your peddle off the metal gives you less power, but better fuel mileage. ----------
