Power ports....

Has anyone with a base model PT added a power port to the dash where it is located on the higher trim package models? I have one power port near the cup holders. There is a space for a second on the dash near the rear wiper and defroster switches. I am currently using the one I have for my satellite radio and refuse to unplug it and not use it.....but my wife just bought me a GPS for my birthday and I need a power point for it. Anyone done this? Are the power wires behind the panel and just need the appropriate plugs etc from the dealer to hook it up? Any help would be great. Going on a trip soon and would like to use my new toy....while listening to my Sirius radio. ----------

Hi Gojeepgo, This might be a temporary fix for you, but Autozone has a plug in that has 2 outlets on it. Gary ---------- If it's gonna happen - it's gonna happen out there.

Thanks, I saw those the other day. I am not to sure about using one though. I think the two things pluged in might be to much for the circuit and blow fuses. Im going to take the dash apart later and see if there are any power wires for an outlet back there. I found the power ports for sale online last night for about 15 bucks new. If the wires are there Im going that route. I just was looking to see if anyone did it with success. Just checked behind the dash. There are not any extra wires to hook up the power port. I pulled the harness apart and looked. Anyone wire one in? If so how did you do it? ----------

I run my XM and gps off a splitter in the cup holder because i often have passengers who's knees kit the higher plug, i have had no power problems yet... GPS' and Sat radios are relatively low amp devices anyway. ----------

Thanks for the reply. Since I posted I have bought a circut boss kit from painless performance and a OE dash mounted plug off ebay. I still havent hooked it up, I just got everything I need but it will be run on its out circut now. I'll have three extra stand alone circuts in addition so I think I might run some driving or fog lights also. If I knew about the splitter working out well sooner I might have just gone that route. ----------
