Down here in the bayou country, we have more than our share of stuff to get stuck in our grills. Love bugs, mosquitoes, slow moving fat politicians and...... maybe a few HHRS. (sorry, I couldn't resist) Love bugs are probably something most of you don't have to deal with. I think they are limited to areas near the Gulf Coast. They are called love bugs because the spend most of their short lives.......well....loving. Twice a year we are "blessed" with a visit from these red headed black bugs that are connected at the butt. They resemble a dual rotor helicopter when they fly. They don't seem to be able to control the direction in which they fly since each each of them seems to consider themselves the pilot of this "flying love machine". However, they do seem to find their way to every roadway and stay there long enough to end up on some ones grill. Sometimes the concentrations of these little pest are so thick, it sounds like rain striking the wind shield. Many people pull over at gas stations and scrub the bus off before the sticky, highly acidic residue has time to dry. Unfortunately, not everyone has the foresight or the time to do this and as result they find just how hard it can be to get these little buggers off their grill and bumpers. Whenever I find a product that I think works well. I try to let people know so they don't waste their money as I have on those that don't. In this case, I found that Turtle Wax Bug and Tar remover works the best of all those I've tried. It's thick and stays where you spray it. Let it sit there for about one minute, then wipe off with a soft cloth. Best of all, it leaves a wax barrier that will help protect your paint from future exposure. I hope this little tip you helps preserve your cruisers' smile. ---------- CajunCruiser "Tacky.....yet delightfully unrefined!"

Good tip, and thankfully we don't have to deal with lovebugs (or hardly any bugs at all) here in SoCal. I might caution everyone to consider the wax coating left behind by this product or any other product, including actual wax or sealant, from any company you can think of (Turtle Wax, Zaino, Meguiar's, Mother's, Adam's, Collonite, etc) - don't be fooled into thinking that a wax or sealant coating is an impenetrable barrier. Anything that has the potential to etch your paint will eat through anything that you pour out of a bottle, wipe on the paint, and wipe off to leave a microscopic barrier behind. Never, ever, ever let things like dead bugs and bird droppings sit on the paint for any length of time, no matter how much wax or sealant you have on your car (this includes those Zaino zealots with a dozen coats!!!) ---------- '04 Limited Edition Platinum Series Turbo Lite + Stage 1 + VAK intake + Magnecor wires = 14.48 @ 95mph Pix here

Thanks for the tidbit! We had lovebugs just one year (as you said, they seldom fly this far "north"). They were a mess! They were even all over the house! I had to wash the outside walls of the house to get rid of them. It was a few years ago, and I forgot what kind of weather pattern we had that brought them up our way, but WOW they're a mess! ----------

I'm driving from Tampa to Pensacola later this week and then back the next week. I make this trip a number of times a year and have been doing so for about 25 years. In the past I've always just washed the "love bugs" off with warm soapy water AS SOON AS I arrive at each end of the trip. If the enemy is out this Friday I'll try the Turtle Wax Bug and Tar remover when I get to Pensacola. Unfortunately my PT's "teeth" already have a few cavities due to the previous owner not washing those darn little bugs off ASAP. We get them twice year here in Tampa, but I've noticed that the last two years haven't been as bad as previous years. ---------- Monty in Tampa Some of the coolest toys I've owned.... 2003 PT Cruiser GT 1991 Nissan Sentra SER 1971 Ford Torino 500 1967 Pontiac Lemans

Yeah....nothing is better than getting them off before they harden (about 24hrs...sunny). The season appears to be about over here in Louisiana. Hopefully you won't see too many on your trip. ---------- CajunCruiser "Tacky.....yet delightfully unrefined!"

Our back door is located in corner where the carport meets the house. This area seems to attract them as shelter to the wind. So there is this swirling "black cloud" we have to walk through to go inside. As a result, they cling to us and we bring them inside. I started hanging fly paper in that corner from the eaves. This works very well. When they are thick, I can actually fill several strips in less than a day ---------- CajunCruiser "Tacky.....yet delightfully unrefined!"

I read somewhere (don't remember where & too lazy to look) about somebody using "Pam" cooking spray, to coat the front of their PT. Said the love-bugs then just washed right off with a garden hose. All you had to do then, was wipe dry. ---------- Drive Safe & Enjoy the Ride. J. W. Gilbert, MSgt USAF (Retired) 2005 Bright Silver Touring Editon 15" Stock wheels, Lots of chrome...

Hi Mike, I have been named by you- Zaino Zealot, sounds good. I do go through my Zaino. The spray shine helps bugs slide off. Of course, on a rode trip, I get out every 2 hours and clean the bugs off so they do not get so hard. This works great. At a rest stop, it was 110 degrees out and I am detailing my car, a man asked me what I was doing and I explained about leaving bugs on. He got his towel from his car and started cleaning as well. I started a fad I think, Mickey ---------- 2005 ELECTRIC BLUE CLASSIC Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect. It means that you have decided to look beyond the imperfections
