Just got my prototype vak kit and looking for a laymans step by step installation instructions for the UPC pipe and the Cold Air kit, and I would like to keep the factory air box with a K and N filter, I looked at the website and it is a little confusing and hard to see for a non-mechanic, I was hoping a set written instructions would be included, thanks for any help, I remember reading something about silencers or ? if I keep the factory air box Chief ----------

You aren't going to find much that's more straightforward and direct than the instructions on prototypepower.com, with pictures every step of the way. All I can offer beyond those instructions is the following: - Get a set of ramps to raise the front of the car. It will make access to the cold side of the intercooler much easier.
- Fit everything up loosly at first, then go back and tighten everything down. And by tight, I mean TIGHT!!! You won't want any boost leaks. I would recommend picking up some T-Bolt clamps to ensure a tight fit at the intercooler and throttle body - I've seen poorly installed units blow the pipe off at both locations. You don't really need T-Bolts before the turbo as there is no pressure in that section.
- You will have a tight fit even with the battery pan removed and out of the way, but I've installed enough of these things to know that getting under the car for the hookup to the intercooler is a benefit. It helps to have a second pair of hands and eyes, especially if you aren't completely comfortable with this sort of thing.
As far as the silencers in the stock air box go, it's really just a white donut looking thing that pops off (with a little persuasion). If you go this route you'll need to cap one of the nipples on the airbox to turbo pipe supplied with the VAK kit. It doesn't matter which one you cap, either. Disclaimer: I built prototypepower's website, helped write the install instructions, took the photos, and my car is the one used in the dyno section of the site. I earn no income from prototypepower and am not related to the owner. I have no financial stake in the company, Adam is just a friend of mine. ---------- '04 Limited Edition Platinum Series Turbo Lite + Stage 1 + VAK intake + Magnecor wires = 14.48 @ 95mph Pix here
