                              Cheeringgood article mickeyCheering
right now my kitten is helping me in ways i never thought.going thru a divorce and all that crap, even tho it is a "friendly one" as if there is a friendly way to turn ones world upside down.
i can't think of any other car that would or could help as the pt lets everyone show who they are as a person. i feel the pt is a celebration of the owner first and the car second instead of the other way around.
i have not done much with my baby so far except sound system and a little interior work but as soon as i get new sewing machine(not-yet ex-wife took that) i can finish that and go to outside to start.
anyway great article and keep your energy and enthusiasm going as that shows how much we all love our cars.even us less vocal ones.

CheeringThanks Hip Cat for your support, hope your ride is back to normal as well as your nerves! Thanks Dream Cruiser, Clive.
Kinky Ron- Love that name- are you saying you are less vocal, well you need to re-think that! You write beautifully. Someone else that puts themselves out there! You know your words will help others in the same situation. Divorce, nasty business whether friendly or not. Many adjustments to make. I have been there done that twice.
When I first got Pete, I was in a bad way, my dad had just died, demanding mother, and no escape from my misery. Then that car took over my life and has given me such pleasure and has totally changed my life. I have great passion for my car as of how I feel when I drive it. It is my escape from my hurts of life. Our PT's make us feel important as no human can. It is all in us, our attitude changes. Our pride in ownership and in ourselves. Gives us our self worth. I am sure many of you know and agree with what I say. It is easy to write when you are in love with something. Thanks again for being there, everyone and keep fighting for our car, Mickey Kissy

Cheering Hi, I got another Associated Producer writing to me today and wanted to share the letter. This guy is like sure it is being discontinued because of lack of power. Does he know this for a fact? This is what a lot of you guys have been saying, right? What do you think of it? What are you going to do about it? Mickey

My page has had 405 views but only 6 comments and I have made 61 cents! At least I have had 10 producers interested enough to write me. My Messages Inbox Archive Sent From: Big Daddy (click to view CP page) Sent: Sep 24 2007 06:07AM Subject: Message from Big Daddy Message from Big Daddy Hi,
The reason for the cancelation is falling sales. The car, even WITH the turbo engine, is woefully underpowered. Like Chevy's version of the PT both firms failed to get the message that, after the "early adopters" bought it, more thoughtful people would judge the car on its merits. I really LIKE the PT and the Chevy version but without adequate power it's dead as a doornail. It needs a "6" badly, an engine with torque - not just horsepower. Work on THIS angle, to get them to put a decent engine in, and you might have a chance. Remember, though: Chrysler has been bought out by financiers, NOT car people, and they're just as likely to break up the company as improve it. And Chevy? Well, we all know about GM's troubles. That they didn't put a "6" in the own version shows lack of clear thinking. I wish you luck!
By the way, if you know of anyone whose put a six into a PT and it works and look decently let me know.
Good luck,
Zane Binder

Re: [MICKEY41] Published article- save the ptc Can't Post

Who is this "Big Daddy" guy that authored that piece? The reason for cancelling the PT is more than just reduced sales; Chrysler is/has retrofitted the Toluca Mexico plant to produce a whole new generation of vehicle. The current PT does not share anything with any other vehicle in the Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep lineup (it used to have some component share/basis in the old Neon) and as such is sort of an orphan. The new crossovers being built in Toluca, the Dodge Journey and an as yet to be named Chrysler version (please, please oh please do NOT let it be called PT Cruiser) share the platform of the Dodge Avenger/Chrysler Sebring. Yes, they do come with a V6 option but that certainly doesn't address the "woefully underpowered" comment of his as the V6 in these cars makes marginally more HP (235 vs 230HP in the PT GT's little 4 banger) yet less torque (232 vs 245lb-ft from the little turbo 4) than the engine in the PT Turbo, yet the two vehicles weigh basically the same. Meanwhile, the Chevy HHR is selling well even with a measly 172HP (or less, depending on engine). Why? Because it's a fairly new vehicle while the PT has been around, virtually unchanged, for almost 7 years - that is forever in the auto industry.

His comment about Chrysler being bought out by "financiers, NOT car people" is rather hollow as well. Chrysler has since brought back Tom Gale, father of both the Chrysler 300 and the PT Cruiser, as well as hiring away the Marketing Director from Infinity Automobiles and the head of Toyota North America, a man who has been with Toyota for 30 some odd years and is credited with a good deal of that brand's success in the country. Not car people? Uh huh.

Look, I love the PT Cruiser as much as the next guy, but since platform sharing is practically an economical must for Chrysler I just don't see it living beyond the stated 2009 model year. I'm sure none of us want to see something like the Dodge Journey given the PT Cruiser name under a Chrysler badge. No, I'd rather the lovable little PT Cruiser be allowed to have the curtain drawn on it's wonderful run rather than see it bastardized into some monstrosity just so the name can carry on.

Cheering Hi Mike, First of all thanks for posting as I was freaking out. Took me awhile to get back on here as we had a tornado go through but I am still alive! Knocked out my computer for awhile.
The Associated Producers were part of the Save the PT blog , another place to write so I wrote and it was published. These producers private email me with their comments, they are media. All have been positive and generic, so no big deal. Then I got this one. I was not sure if this guy had inside knowledge as to the fate of the car or what. He wants a more powerful engine or is saying that the PTC does not have the power to continue on. Is that right?
I feel like you do exactly. If they are going to continue the name and put it on that ice box special, I will be up in arms. So shall we fight to Save the PT or fight to let the name die with her? This is a sad day for me. Mickey Frown

Mickey,

No one likes a vacuum, where knowledge is concerned. We know there is talk, or fact, that the PTC is not to be continued past 2009, or 2010 (I've seen people say both). Why isn't out there in black and white, so people fill in the blanks for themselves. The two complaints I've heard most are low power and poor gas mileage. Well, I have not found that magical car that can do both with the interior room of the PTC. I'm sure the design could be changed while keeping the retro look. Of course, some of those "experts" say the retro look is not popular any more, but I keep seeing cars designed to look like their 60's and 70's ancestors. I guess they don't sell either, and I don't see them on the road every day.

Re: [MICKEY41] Published article- save the ptc Can't Post

Personally, I think the guy's way off base. Sure, there are plenty of more powerful cars out there, but this is not a $35,000 near luxury vehicle (Acura, Infinity, etc) and doesn't compete in that arena. There are plenty of cars with good sales numbers that don't make the power the current GT makes. Heck, even amongst PT Cruisers the GT was not the best seller, the cars with the 150HP engines were!! Besides, if you want more power out of your PT GT, you can easily get 400HP with complete daily driver reliability for a couple of grand. Now, if Chrysler wants to "freshen up" the current design but keep the retro feel, and put it on the Dodge Caliber platform, then fine - it could still be the same sort of look, size and feel as the current car. But the PT has become almost iconic in retro design circles, and making much of a change will generate massive complaints from the faithful. Look at the 2006 mild redesign....people were crying that the PT had been ruined when the changes were, to the outside observer, not all that dramatic. I hear the same thing from my Mini Cooper friends - "the new car is NOT a Mini" they say. I can hardly tell the difference, but then again I'm not a Mini Cooper guy so I don't care. Your average non-PT Cruiser buyer won't really notice the 2006 changes either, as evidenced by the fact that 2006 sales exceeded those of 2005 models.

But now we're coming into the 2008 model year, well over a million PT Cruisers have been sold - all basically in the same body style - and people just want something new and different. It's really that simple. This car has been around far, far longer in the same skin than anything else on the road today (perhaps discounting some pickups and vans), which I think speaks volumes about the popularity of the car. But, as they say, all good things must come to an end. So be it.

Fortunately all BAD things must come to an end as well, and I'm glad that tornado ended before it got a hold of you!!

CheeringHi Terry, you bring up a good point, why isn't anything on paper and all speculation? I have gone into my Chrysler dealership, with my Save the PTC speech and they know nothing about this and ask me where I have gotten my information. I realize that I live in the sticks but wouldn't there at least be a rumor among them? How can we end the rumors and get the facts? I think I would feel a lot better one way or the other, rejoice that in the future owners can have a PTC, or rejoice that I have one now. Mickey Kissy

Re: [MICKEY41] Published article- save the ptc Can't Post

Mickey,

It could be Chrysler does not know for sure. What will the 2012 (insert model here) look like? If there is no design pictures out there, does that mean the manufacturer is planning to drop it? Chrysler is probably looking at the PTC and know they either have to redesign or move on. If there is a design change, Chrysler is not going to share it and have it stolen by the competition. IF they are dropping it, they probably won't make it known for sure until they have an "exciting" replacement.

I think we just have to keep up telling Chrysler that we want the PTC to continue in its current style and hope we either reinforce their decision to keep it in the line up or convince them that dropping it would be a mistake. It's a shame Cadillac has the slogan that best fits the PTC. "When you turn it on, it returns the favor."

Cheering Thanks Terry amd Mike,
Mike. I am grateful for your comment about me, thank you. It is tornado season once again in the Great Plains of Nebraska, Spring and fall' here they come. Second one we have had a touch down. Man I will be so glad to get out of here and back to Ventura or possible San Diego, if i win the lottery!
Terry, I am dishearted as I have been fighting so hard on this campaign and all I get for my trouble is confusion and worry. What will be will be, but I am done at least for today. I will be selfish and think who cares if other people experience the joy I have gotten out of a car. I have pushed this down people's throats long enough. I can not make other people go buy a car just because I think it is so great. I have sold two on my recommendations, but that does not mean a tinkers damn to Chrysler. There is my two cents worth, or my 61 cents I have earned for that article! Mickey

Mickey,

Don't get discouraged. It's not that Chrysler does not appreciate the PTC or the owners, but that they probably won't make a statement until they are 100% sure. The good news is they have not made that announcement, so the decision is not made or set in stone. Corporations don't like to make mistakes, or get caught making one. They love to say, "due to popular demand." The more people who let Chrysler know they love the PTC, the tougher it will be to stop production.

I'm going to try to concentrate on local PT owners and leave a card on their car telling them about the "Save The PT" idea and petition. Many may just not be aware of it yet. Others may not know what to do.

Well, off to work. Don't get blown away by a tornado!

please do not be discouraged with people that will never understand the pt crowd.take heart and look at the history of the chrysler imperial.it was discontinued and brought back lord knows how many times in its lifetime.i have even heard of rumors to bring it back in the line-up again.i owned a 1993 imperial and i think it was the last year made then.now another after 14+years of being gone.seems chrysler does listen even if you don't think they do.
please, please do not lose your enthusiasm for our cars and all the wonderfull people they attract.you are 1 of my favorites here and even when you think your posts are really stupid about the technical side of things i still see the humor and the will to learn about something that is such a part of your life.some may see it all as silly but i see your love and commitment to your car and new pt lifestyle.so just keep on keeping on and let the rest of the world that we are here to stay.

Cheering Well I do not know what to say to that! I am one of your favorites, you made my year! Hat
I haven't lost my enthusiasm for the PTC. I am just tired of trying to convince people that Save the PTC is really worth the fight. Anyone who blogs 6 times and writes a lot of articles and joins 5 forums, is a little obsessive , don't you think? I work and I do not have time to do all this as I neglect my friends. I have about 500 Emails unread. I will never catch up.
Plus, I have my own cause that needs more attention than I give it. I am an Advocate against Domestic Violence and we are having a fund raiser, as October is the awareness month for us. We are a non profit organization so it is important to me. I hardly ever sleep as I feel guilty for not doing enough. I have to choose between the two.
My car is the most important thing in my life right now. When I have an extremely bad case such as a child that is abused, the only thing that helps is a cruise. I hope you understand and thank you for the lovely compliment. Mickey Wave

I guess I did have a lot to say, lol

Mickey,

That's the stories Chrysler needs to hear. I bet most of us on this forum could say the same thing about our cars. My job is fairly stressful, though nothing like yours, but walking from my building and seeing my PTC waiting to take me always puts a smile on my face. You're doing great, but get to those E-Mails, too. Bill Gates may be sending you money! Wink

Besides, someone may be giving you the idea you are looking for in this or other projects. Just don't spend too much time away from the forum. We'll miss you.

Re: [TerryR] Published article- save the ptc Can't Post

CheeringOh no Terry, i am right here and have been here all day. Again bad day! Long story too. I had this brainstorm to make a T-shirt to Save the PT Cruiser, so last night I could not sleep as these thoughts were in my head as many said to design one. So today, low and behold, a advertisement from the company I had ordered my expensive business cards comes to me. I normally delete but what does this says of course- free t-shirt! This stuff always happens to me. Spooky !
So I get on the phone and was put on hold forever, finally a live person but one of those that you can not possibly understand. After trying forever , I say do you have a supervisor? Yes, sounds like the exact same man. So I tell him I want to design the free T- shirt, well that was the big one, again put on hold. Comes back, I tell what I want, no can't have that has to be white only and lettering of my choice in black, front only- for the free one. OK, I say I want SAVE the PT CRUISER but I want it in blue. Again on hold. Comes back, ok. I ask the cost of shipping- he says for 1 t-shirt, I say yes but others will order. He says for one free t-shirt, $14.01. I complain, he tells me that I can order 500 and get them at next to nothing.
On another forum it was suggested that I do just that, but no thank you! He tells me that if others wish to purchase this design to get it free (?) they must use my email address, my password and the letter sent to me. Or they must have an acc't to get the so called free offer.
I was so caught up in the idea that I got this thing off the ground that I posted the web address that this clown gave me on the forum and of course Aucrzr goes in there and posts me it doesn't work. Go back and copy another one and post that and it doesn't work either. Go get the phone number and it just sets there as people are too confused to do anything and so am I .
I posted on another forum and it is going better as I learned something on this one. You have to write to me at my personal email, then I will send you the letter from the company and my password. Then you log in with my email and password and go through the ordering process. You can see the t-shirt before you give your money. You can also search for it at www,vista.com
So how was your day. Terry? I knew I should have stuck to my guns and forgot this whole darn thing. Any questions or if you would like to order: my email is mkoch41@yahoo.com. Mickey Frown

I'll ditto that! why let the name og on when the whole essence and charm of the vehicle is gone?

It seems to me, a couple of years back I read an article that revealed distant plans for the PTC. It mentioned using a mitsubishi patform and dropping in the V6. I guess that was before Daimler started thinking about unloading Chrysler.

Re: [TerryR] Published article- save the ptc Can't Post

CheeringWell, here I am again, boy, I bet everyone is so sick of me and my Save the PT Cruiser stories. Sorry. This is an addendum to the price of the free t-shirt. Well that price did not set well with me, highway robbery, so again the phone calls to my non- speaking English supervisor. Complained, he said my order was reprogramed to include 250 return address labels for $3.99 as I was such a good customer! Of course, I was charged the $3.99. That took me quite a long time to understand that and I thought, who cares, fine, I can not deal with these jerks anymore.. I asked how much the total would be if the people ONLY want the free t-shirt and finally. $9.40 cents. Of course after their conference, while I was put on hold and listened to: "your message is very important to us, please hold!" So dear, confused friends, again if you want to order this darn t-shirt, follow the PM me and I will send you this famous offer and please watch the total as it should be $9.40 plus maybe some pennies and I mean pennies that might add for taxes. There! I hope there will be no more add on's or I will shot myself with Aucrzr's big gun! Mickey.Jump 2Where is Bill Gates when I need him, maybe he would all get us really free t-shirts!!!!!!!!!! Off to work, and so glad! I can relax there!

Mickey,
Where are these "free T-shirts" coming from, India? I think tonight you need to put on some soft music and sit down with an adult beverage!!

God bless
