Pulling Spark Plug Wire Off??
|

Is there some special secret or tool needed to do this? I just went outside thinking that I could quickly change my plugs, but of course that isn't happening. I can't seem to pull the damn wires off the plugs. I didnt use pliers or anything like that, I just got my hand on there and pulled. I can feel the rubber of the boot stretching like hell, but it refuses to come off the plug. So before the rubber rips and half of the boot is still stuck connected to the plug; how the hell do you get these things off!?! ----------

If the wires have been on for some time you are going to have a problem getting them loose. You might try twisting them to see if they will come off but in the past I have destroyed at least one when this has happened. I would just replace the wires with Crane Firewires from Race & Street and make sure that you use wire grease that you can get at any auto parts store when you install them so the problem won't happen again. Good luck. ----------

Alright! I got them off. I took some channel locks and got a grip on them and tried the twisting method first but no matter how many turns I made they would just snap back to where they were. So I just yanked them off with some force. My 05 has 42K on it and i'm guessing that the Champions that were in there are the originals. Their gap had spread to about .58. So I put in my new Iridiums and new wires and she's idling as smooth as glass. She was a little nasty before the plug change. I'll see how the drive home is in a couple hours. Thanks for the help. ----------

You should use dielectric grease on the plug wire boots to keep the wires from sticking to the plugs and use anti-seize on the plug threads to keep the plugs from seizing up. ---------- 2005 Stone White SRT4 2004 Graphite Auto

Yes! This was obviously the perfect situation showing that the grease is definitely needed for the boots. So I did do both those things when I installed the new plugs and wires. ----------

My PT just turned 40K so, I guess it's time to do mine as well. Hopefully, mine won't be that difficult? ---------- "Just Cruisin' Lite."
