Questtion on Undercoat and wind noise

Mike, I just took delivery of my Inferno Red Cruiser here in Peoria. The Chrysler dealer is offering a paint, undercoat, fabric sealer and rustproofing package that is supposedly developed by Chrysler. They offer it at $500 for the complete package. Given all the new metals and rust protection and new fabrics and paints, I was skeptical of the value of these add-ons. The dealer hasn't pushed them but I would appreciate any comments on the value of this prep work. I'ver heard the undercoating and the rust proffing help quiet down some road noise. What do you think? Also have ordered the spoiler and the CD changer. One last question, as I drove around tonight, I noticed air noise at the driver door. I don't think it's the seal .. it sounds more like wind noise over the mirror or caused by the mirror. Have you ever heard of this? Thanks Rick in Peoria ------------------

The rubber seal that comes off is on the rear door but it goes between the front and rear doors when closed. I would think this would cause a air leak, you may wish to check it to be sure. It is on the upper area of the rear door on tyhe hinge side.

My dealer insisted that I take the paint protection package (or I could wait on my order instead of taking the spec car he had in) and charged my $599. Got home and guess what, no undercoating, paint or fabric protection on the car.Raised H*&% and got the price down to $399 and I took it to Ziebart myself to have the work done. The car smelled bad for a few days but the paint looks great, the carpet is protected and the undercoating/soundproofing works well. Just my $.02, Steve ------------------ 28G, ABS, CD, Mopar Spoke wheels, Air Deflector, 300 watt Sub, Luggage rack (coming soon) Click for more pictures.

That is a customer preference item.Last time I bought a new couch they asked me if I wanted fabric guard and I said yes. There is nothing bad about it I can think of. If you generally keep your cars 8-10 years them it is more enticing. Mike

Thanks a lot Mike for the input. Husband now feels better just knowing he had contact with someone that worked (whoops, had worked) for Chrysler. Anxiously waiting for the PT to arrive.

Yeah understand you comments on the PT Cruiser wind noise. I have used a listening device and the the sound appears to be wind hitting the mirror. It changes based on the speed of car and ambient outside wind. I have checked the seals and gaskets and all are fine. Let me know if you get something else identified. quote: Originally posted by Rick in Peoria: Mike, I just took delivery of my Inferno Red Cruiser here in Peoria. REPLY from SampaI vote against the undercoating. I've always been told that it will only increase the rust problem. Instead of buying the dealer fabric treatment. Just buy a spray can of Scotch Guard and do it yourself. Sampa

Reply from SampaI've also noticed the wind noise. I thought it was caused by the need to sacrifice aerodynamics, in order to achieve the styling that we love. I'm willing to live with the noise, if the styling is the cause. [This message has been edited by Sampa (edited 06-07-2000).] [This message has been edited by Sampa (edited 06-07-2000).]
