Rear sway bars? Where and why were they missing? Can't Post

I have an 04 PT Gt. Has no rear sway Bar. My car is lowered rides nice and has a 29mm Front sway bar. I drove an 02 touring w/ a rear sway bar and it handles the same as my lowered Pt. This really upsets me since i have to spend another $250 in brackets and a bar to put a rear sway bar on. What Gives? And where and who is the best place to get a rear sway bar for The Green machine?

The 2001 and 2002 and few 2003 PT's are the only ones with external sway bars in the back. Some time in 2002-2003 Chrysler decided to cost cut and stregnthen the internal sway bar enough that the outer one in back would no longer be necessary. At this time, Chrysler was also supposed to have made changes to the shock absorbers.

There was not supposed to be any difference in handling with the change.

Here is a complete article on the rear sway bars:

You believe that myth, too, about the intergrated rear axle? How come the part numbers for the rear axles are the same for '03+ and '01/'02 rear axles? The only change there was the deletion of the rear sway bar. Nothing was done to the rear axle at all. It was a cost cutting measure that DCX started doing in '03 on the PT. Remeber when the PT came stock with the cargo net, rear shelf, rear sway bar, passenger side key hole, a/c..........ROFL

Mad that is a crock of $**P! it a cop out to save $20 a car. my car handles mike a pig w/o the rear sway bar! Even after it was lowerd 2 inches in the back. the worst part about though is i have to buy an entire install kit in order to put it on! which costs as much as the stupid sway bar!@

I did not know it was a myth since I did not know the part numbers for the rear axles.

Thanks for the offer. I have a new addcco sway bar in my living room and the install kit is on its way. Next few items on the list are the Pteazer front end, a roll pan, and either the 2 1/2" BTG down pipe and elbow or the Modern Performance 3" down pipe and elbow. after that i cant think of any thing else i want to do on my PT. I want either a 2009 dodge challenger or an 05 Dodge Neon SRT-4. Kinda of a wide range but ....

Don't believe the hype, they drive totally different. The 01s don't drag around a corner you can actually toss them in a bit and are fun to do it. Do that to an 03 and you are soooo dissapointed its so flat and lazy, its like the back of the car forgot it was attached to the front.

Re: [CudaPT] Rear sway bars? Where and why were they missing? Can't Post

Like I said before....
Yes, I now know they are different and the people at ptcruizer.com are wrong too. How was I supposed to know they were different I do not go around looking for part numbers on other people's PT's. Besides not all cars are the same, each one has its subtle differences.

I made a mistake about the sway bars (not my fault), now we all know the truth about what happened, maybe this post should be locked by mike.

Not unless it was added to the car after it was bought, there has not been a factory installed rear swaybar on any PT sedan or convertible since early 2003.Smile

No PT after 02 (except, possibly, a few rare early 03s) came with a rear sway from the factory.
