Rear window metal retainer coming off

Inside the rear window of the convertible top is a long u-channel metal retainer at the bottom of the window. I noticed about a 8 inches on each side of the center is separted from what it is supposed to hold together. I tried pushing it back on but it does not stay. Has anyone else notice this problem? Take a look. Let me know what you find. Any easy fixes, or is this a dealer repair? ---------- Top Down better than Bottoms Up

Yes - I had the same problem. When I bought my 05 GT vert new in April 04, a couple of weeks after I had the car, I was cleaning the inside of the rear window and noticed the separation at the bottom of the window that you are talking about. I took the car back to the dealer and after two unsuccessful attempts by two different top shops at getting that repaired, I insisted that the convertible top be replaced but it was covered under warranty. Since then, I have had no problems with it - but I keep an eye on it. Hmmm, wonder if this was something going on with the 05 GT verts?? ----------

This is what I did today and who I spoke with to fix this problem. First, I went to the Chrysler dealer for them to look at it. The service writer's name is Ricky Nelson. He sent me to their upholstery/top specialist a block down the street...his name - Jimmy Carter. I'm not joking. Jimmy was very helpful - he reinstalled the popped out section of the "headliner retainer strip" on the inside bottom of the rear glass. But he said it will likely pop off again, so he worked with the Chrysler dealer to order several more little retainer clips that fit inside the plastic retainer strip. He said that should fix it. There you go - my hour in Chrysler land over lunch. ---------- Top Down better than Bottoms Up

They tried those retainer clips on my rear window at the first top shop - and that didn't work. With the top going up and down, those clips wouldn't stay in place. Keep a close eye on it. ----------

I will...thanks. Did they give you an idea of why this problem occurred in the first place and what is different about your new top that gives confidence the problem will not recur? ---------- Top Down better than Bottoms Up

I just checked my '05 DC4 Convertible which was built 8/04 and it is ok so far, but I will keep an eye on it, I have the 7/70 B to B warranty, but I just hope they keep enough tops in my color available in case I ever need a new one, as it is burgundy and they only made 1548 DC4s. So it is kind of a rare color top.

They didn't say why it happened. Apparently it was that way from the factory. I noticed it after I had the car about three weeks or so. I could tell a difference in the way the top/retainer clips fit around the rear window of the new top. It was almost as if the top/retainer clips/rear window were misaligned from the factory on the original top and there wasn't "enough" top material to align with the rear window. ----------

My retainer looks distorted/contorted/warped - probably from excessive heat buildup sitting out in the hot Florida sun for 2 years. But Jimmy Carter was able to force it back on...but it still looks warped. The top has been up and down 3 or 4 times since...it hasn't come off yet. ---------- Top Down better than Bottoms Up
