Removal of strange smear/scuff...
|

Hello all ~ I park on the street and the other morning, as I was coming around to my driver's side to head to work, I noticed this white smear/scuff going from right under my side view mirror back to the middle of my driver's side rear door! I thought it was scratched, but if I scratch at it lightly it comes off very slowly. A run thru the car wash did nothing for it - I think it would take a some real elbow grease to rub it off. It looks sort of like how a thick grey crayon run across black construction paper would look... *scratching head* Any suggestion as to what type of cloth / product I should use? What do yall think could have made that mark? It seems that any vehicle coming that close would do actual body damage.... (I can't wait until we re-do our fencing so I can park in the driveway. My driver side window was smashed in twice winter '06 -07's and it's still up for debate on whether it was vandalism or issues with the tempered glass and now this...?) ---------- 2001 Black PT Cruiser Limited Adopted 6/27/06 w/ 44k miles Finally a car of my very own!!!

There is a thing called Solution X. it removes things like that for paint. Any Good detail shop should be able to try it out on a rag and see if it comes off. ---------- 04 "SRT-4" PT Cruiser w/ AutoStick (in Sea Mist Green, 1 of 146) Stage 1, Mopar BOV, MagnaFlow exhaust, Mopar 7.5mm wires, Mopar-Bosch Plugs gapped at .035, Mopar air filter, unrestricted air box, H&R sport springs, Progress 27mm front sway bar, Energy Suspension motor mount inserts, 06' tail lights, 06' Hood emblem, T-handle on rear glass, SRT-4 badges, factory chrome accent group, chrome door cups, 8" Mopar sub, ArmourFend ClearBra.

Try Meguiar's Scratch X. It's great for getting rid of things like that. Use a soft, lint-free cloth or an old T-shirt. ----------

I think I get scuffs like the one you described except mine are black or red. They look like someone scraped a "marking sole" shoe on a part of the car; I have absolutely no idea what causes them. I either scrape it off gently with my fingernail or I use a microfiber cloth. If all else fails I use a little elbow grease when I wash it. I like to keep my PT waxed so that any little thing will just fall off. Unfortunately, I need to start looking for another wax to use because the one I am currently using is being deleted from all the stores. ----------

Ah the choices... It sounds like this is something on the surface and not something cut into the paint so a "scratch remover" shouldn't be necessary although it may work fine. A good rubbing compound would suffice for removal of the "Contaminate" then follow with wax. It is always best to use a micro-fiber towel when rubbing on your paint to help keep from making scratches in the paint. ---------- DC1 #1610--5-speed. Its got some stuff. Thanks all ~ Yes, LeoCruiser, that's what it is kinda like - the sole markings from a rubber soled shoe. WTH? I feel that a rubbing compound or a scratch remover might be overkill, you know? I will definitely get a microfiber to go at it..... ---------- 2001 Black PT Cruiser Limited Adopted 6/27/06 w/ 44k miles Finally a car of my very own!!!

it could have been a small kid on a bike that fell next to your car and the rubber handle grip ran down your side.try a little wd-40 with a microfiber rag.that should strip it off.just wax again immediatly after as it will probably strip your wax also. ron ---------- When people see a cat's litter box, they always ask, 'Oh, have you got a cat?'
