Well…. we knew it had to end some time. Southern California, we are not. Heck, we aren’t even Southern Ohio (although South Euclid is nearby). After twenty-six consecutive weeks, (a world record for this sort of thing), the North Coast PT Cruisers assembled in beautiful downtown Mayfield Heights for the LAST outdoor Cruise-In of the 2001 season. The weather was very nice and no one except Donna N. had to wear their long johns or ear muffs. Donna did leave the babushka at home though.
Daylight Savings Time ended a two days earlier, and it did seem a bit strange to congregate after sunset. The rear parking lot of the Golden Gate Shopping Center is well lit, so we probably could continue to meet here, but all good things must come to an end (or do they?).
As usual we asked for a show of newbie hands. A lady from the Mentor are raised hers, and so did another lady from the Slavic Village area of Cleveland. We welcomed them and told them we were sorry that this was the end of the season….and they promised to come back again next year. Also in attendance, were the Cruizin 4 from Tallmadge.
We haven’t seen the W. Family for a while. Cherie had assured us that all was well and that the duties of a soccer mom precluded some PT Cruisin’. In fact, the boys had done so well that they went undefeated right up until their final game. Nice Going W…s !!!
It was nice to see them, and we hope to be graced by their presence during some of our winter activities. They don’t play soccer in the winter do they?
A report on the previous day’s Coats for Kids Cruise-In was given. Attendance was not what had been hoped for, primarily because the local fish wrap (Cleveland Plain Dealer for those of you in Rio Linda) neglected to print an article about the event as had been expected. Note: The Editor of the automotive section had called me on the phone to verify the facts about the event. No explanation as to why the article failed to appear.
Regardless, we collected 25 coats and had lots of fun.
Orders for T-Shirts were taken, and window clings were sold. We need to have about 12 more shirts ordered before we can have them printed. So….if you are wondering what to get someone for the Holidays…how about a nice North Coast PT Cruiser T-Shirt ?
Because of the excellent rear shelf display the obviously repentant PT-Flash brought to the Cruise-In this evening, it was decided to “un-Wienie” him. Ok Flashmeister, you are not a “wienie” any more !! But you still have to learn how to use the rear view mirror.
As the meeting was about to break up, our Leader Nancy Jo stepped to the podium to bring tears to our eyes as she thanked us all for coming to all the events, and for all the wonderful friendships, and for all the fun we had. I even had to pull my hankie out of my rear pocket. But all is not lost !!
We will continue to meet throughout the “winter”. There will be a dinner meeting on the FIRST Monday of the every month, and a social activity and dinner meeting on the THIRD Sunday of every month. To those of you who might feel we have “too many things going on” - it’s not necessary to go to all of them. Come if you wish, and have the time to do so…or not.
There will be PTC (Pie, Tea, Coffee) meetings beginning at 8pm at the Bob Evans restaurant in Mayfield Heights, Ohio every Monday evening (except when a dinner meeting is held). There were 12 cars and 25 people at our “practice run” last week.
Bob Evans is located on Golden Gate Boulevard, across the road from the Golden Gate Shopping Center. It is near the intersection or Route 322 (Mayfield Road) and I-271. To get there from I-271, exit at Route 322 EAST. Go to the FIRST traffic light and turn right. You can’t miss it. See you there on Monday!
See What YOU Missed !! Come Hang With the North Coast PT Cruiser Gang !!
