Report: North Coast PT Cruisers Coats For Kids Benefit Cruise-In 10-28 pics Can't Post

It was an unexpectedly warm and beautiful Sunday afternoon in downtown Mayfield Heights, Ohio – a gift to us from the Weather Gods. Who knew ahead of time how nice the day would be? A perfect afternoon for a Cruise-In…except hardly anyone in North East Ohio knew about it. The articles advertising this as an “open” (all-car) Cruise-In, the last one of the local Cruisin’ season, did not appear in the local Sunday paper. So…the LARGE number of cars we expected to show up did not do so.

Nevertheless, the event must be considered a success, although a smaller one than we had hoped for. Seventeen PT Cruisers and 4 other cars showed up, and we collected more than 25 Coats for Kids. So, at least 25 kids will have new coats for this coming winter.
And that isn’t all too shabby.

We did a good deed. We had our DJ…the Fabulous (HiYo) Silver, Man!! and some Tunes. We played our ONE Country Western song for Dennis. We gave out our Wienie of the Week Award (see below). We had some Cool Cruisers. We had some Munchies to share. We had our Friends. We had great weather. And most of all We had Fun!!

Wienie of the Week Award:
One amongst us showed up WITHOUT his PT Cruiser…. because he thought the weather was not going to be nice. So he brought some coats for kids…. and was going to leave. But he was spotted before being able to sneak off into the sunset (so to speak). By unanimous vote of all those in attendance, he was awarded the prestigious “Wienie of the Week Award”. I am not going to mention him by name, but he drives a Cranbaby Cruiser, managed to lose all 29 cars following him at the Grape Jamboree Parade, goes by the name of PT-Flash, and his initials are: KEN WALKER.

Rocks and Roses:
Roses: To TGI Friday’s at the rear of the Golden Gate Shopping Center for allowing us to tap into their electrical system for this event and also on Labor Day. Without their permission to do so we would have had to lug in a generator to provide electricity for our DJ and for our coffee and hot cider pots. Thank you Mark at TGI Friday’s !!

Roses: To our super DJ, Brad Milbrand, aka “the Fabulous (HiYo) Silver, Man! Brad provided the music system and all the tunes for this event as well as several others.
Brad always does a great job and has always volunteered for duty before we had a chance to ask him to do so. Thank you, Brad!!

Roses: To Ann Geleherter. . Ann writes the “checkpoint” column, which appears in the Cleveland Sunday Plain Dealer. This column is a listing of auto events going on in the North East Ohio Area. Ann has always been a great help in getting info about North Coast PT Cruiser events into the paper. Ann agreed to try to help us get info about the Coats for Kids Cruise into the paper, even though the PD had decided to put “checkpoint” columns into hibernation until spring.

Roses: To Chris Jensen and the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Chris is the automotive editor of the PD. The PD has been very cooperative in publishing MOST of the events we have submitted to them with the help of Ann Geleherter. MOST of the time, they have gotten our name spelled right, and given the correct date and time of the event. Notice…. we said MOST of the time.

ROCKS: To Chris Jensen and the Cleveland Plain Dealer. They forgot or neglected to put our Coats for Kids event in the paper, even though they had the info three weeks ahead of time, and even though Chris spoke to me personally to verify the info. What happened? I don’t know. But there was NO publicity for this event, and the expected crowd of 100 cars and 100 coats never materialized.

Roses: To those of you who showed up in the unexpectedly nice warm weather and contributed to our Coats For Kids campaign and made it a Fun day Sunday.

Will we do this again next Year? You bet your Bippy we will!!! Too bad YOU could not be there!! Come Hang With the North Coast PT Cruiser Gang !!
