Sentry key compatible Remote starter? Can't Post

I have an 02 limited, i noticed that from the factory you can get remote start but all the after market kits i have found via google require a sentrykey bypass kit, i guess if i get a code alarm unit it really wont matter because they disable the ignition when you lock the doors but i would really like something that just integrates into the system that is there. i am a nerd by profession and cant understand why a remote starter cant just interface with the vehicle computer to allow starting without the sentrykey and disable the gear shift until the sentrykey is inserted and turned to the 'on' position. in another post i saw something about a Mopar Remote Start #82208859. help, insight, anyone?

I have a 05 & 06 PT Touring. I installed remote starters in each. I installed the Mopor remote units. They are more expensive but you get more. They have a harness which cuts down the installation time, they come with 2 remotes, you don't have to sacrifice a key to by-pass the sentry ($200 for the 06, in addition to purchasing an extra module) , and the car will not remote start with a key in the ignition (prevents carbon monoxide poisioning if car is in the garage, and allows me to program same remote for both cars.

did you get have to get the Sentry key bypass box or just wire in the OEM unit... the other thing is that i cant seem to find a Mopar unit that is listed as compatible with an 02... everything says 04 and up. not remote starting with the key in is a good idea. i don't know if it makes any difference but i already have remote locks.

also how easy is the whole thing to install, i am more of an electronics/electrical guru then i am a mechanic, do i need to take anything apart or is all the wiring done under the hood?

The sentry by-pass unit is part of the whole kit (Actually the kit is 2 pieces, one the main control & the DNA). Remote locks make no difference it is a separate fob. The pannel under the steering collum and the collar around iT have to be removed (Easy to do on the 05, harder on the 06 due to a low air bag). You have to disconnect the ignition switch and connect it to the harness which is connected to the main unit. There is a ground wire to connect, a wire to the horn, the stop light switch, and the parking lights. 2 wires have to go into the engine compartment (The hood switch & tach signal at the coil). A wire has to be glued around the antenna for the sentry at the ignition switch. The programming is done with the key on, the brake pedel and the programming switch (Wired to the main unit).
The manual tells you where to find the wires & what color they are. I am not sure about this being available 02 but I would call the parts dept at a dealer and ask.

Re: [abbeyroad] Sentry key compatible Remote starter? Can't Post

thanks for the quick rundown. i will call in the morning

i have been looking around the forum a bit and found several people who are happy with the VIPER 791XV, one question i have is does this replace teh factory remote for door locks and the factory alarm?

EDIT: i just found this one that comes with two remotes, which is good since we have two drivers. has anyone used the latter?
