I HAVE NOTICED SOME CARS WITH THE LITTLE SHARK FIN ON THE BACK OF THE ROOF. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS OR IS IT JUST FOR LOOKS?

Most car companies seem to be moving away from the standard antenna mast and going to a small pod or "shark fin" that is mounted somewhere on the roof. On GM's it is a common site to see them have three antennas on the roof: one each for satellite radio, OnStar and the regular stereo.
