How often should I replace shocks and struts, if no visible damage? Is the strut replacement more critical? Some recommend 50000 miles. Thanks for any kind of advise. ----------

It has been many years since I fished out of Quepos. Judging from the roads I would think shocks have to be replaced every twenty miles. There is no set mileage at which shocks/struts need replacement. Most times they are replaced if they are worn or the driver wants performance shocks/struts. Put your knee on each bumper and sharply press down to bounce the car. If it rebounds in 1 1/2 bounces they should not be replaced . . Also replace if there are signs of fluid leakage. ----------

I left Quepos almost 5 years ago. I had a 4-Runner down there. I live now in Ciudad Colon 15 miles West of San Jose. The roads are better here and the road quality has improved down here over last few years. But they still are substandard to US road conditions... That is probably why Chrysler dealer down here doesn't sell PT's. There are less than 20 PT's in the entire country and I am a proud owner of two of them, counting the one ad only convertible in the whole country of Costa Rica. That's the kind of a "loco" I am. Thank you for your advice and the same goes to all the nice folks responding to my questions "from the jungles". ----------
