Spark Plug & Wire Service Bulletin Can't Post

Just got back from the dealer. I have 27,000 miles on my 05 GT vert. Noticed when sitting stopped, say at a traffic light with my foot on the brake, could feel a lot of vibration in the steering wheel, dash and driver's seat. Turning A/C on/off did not change it. Being stopped and putting it in reverse, neutral or park did not change it. It was idling steady at 900 - 1000 rpm and was not misfiring on acceleration. Problem had been getting worse over the last month. The car is still under warranty. The service tech said there was a service bulletin out to replace the spark plugs and wires, and reflash the PCM. Since it didn't cost me anything, I had him replace them - otherwise, if the problem was the plugs and wires and it would have cost me, my husband would have replaced them with something better. Anyhow, the vibration is gone now so that definitely fixed the problem. I searched for a TSB on spark plugs/wires on the 2005 GT and the only thing I found was a TSB for the 04 cruiser. Hmmm. Just thought I would pass this info on.

Yes, the OEM spark plug wires are junk and go out sooner than later. You should look into replacing them with Magnecor, MSD or Crane wires. I used Magnecor wires on my modified '03 GT and MSD wires on my modified '05 SRT-4 (same turbo engine as the GT). Factory plugs are spec'ed out at .050 but .040 is a much better gap. Both my GT and srt run like a bat out of he!!. Dance

I figured since they replaced them under warranty, I would go ahead and let them. But next time around, they will definitely be replaced with something worthwhile!! Plus, my GT is completely stock. I thought about doing some mods but for right now, I will leave it stock.

I have the same issue with my 05 gt vert. The dealer keeps telling me they can not reproduce it. Have you ever had yours stall out?

No, mine never stalled out. It ran fine, I never did notice a "miss" even though the service tech told me it was misfiring. It was the vibration that I was concerned about. When I drove it home, the vibration was gone. Later in the evening, I went on an errand and some of the vibration was present when I was stopped at traffic lights. They have the updated door outer beltline weatherstrip on back order for me and when I take the car back to get those replaced, I will tell them the vibration is not totally gone. (Didn't realize there was an updated version of the weatherstripping so windows won't freeze in the winter-time until I read about it in the TSB's on this website.) Plus, this will give me a chance to drive it for a while since they replaced the plugs/wires. The service tech told me I might want to get the fuel system flushed which I told him, if they had bothered to look at the maintenance log printout laying on the front passenger seat, they would have seen that I had it done elsewhere about 3000 miles ago. (I have maintenance logs created on all my computer for all my vehicles.)

Don't understand why this would only effect the '05 GT Conv. and not the '04 GT's. The same engine, correct? I never had that problem but I did replace the wires with 10mm Magnecors and Iridium plugs just for kicks. Could they have put inferior plugs and/or wires on post '04 models?

Re: [ecarfar] Spark Plug & Wire Service Bulletin Can't Post

My 04 GT will occasionally act up like this. When I come to a stop, it will sometimes shudder and pop and dip way below the normal idle speed. Very rarely, it will actually quit. If I catch it in time and wing the throttle a bit, it clears up. Now I have just completed doing some light mods, we'll see if it still does it. It seemed to me like it was a lazy idle motor, but it could be anything.

Re: [tractorfix] Spark Plug & Wire Service Bulletin Can't Post

Oh yeah, I get this sometimes as well, MY 05 turbo lite vert has 12k on it. Sometimes it kind of lulls a bit then zooms back to normal idel. This is most usually after cold startup. And I have just notced a bit of vibration when idle at a stop light. Question is...which wires and plugs should I get for Xmas for this 180 hp turbo?

Hey, meanie: you know, every once in awhile, I catch my 06 'vert chugging a little when I slow down enough or come to a stopsign, too. Is this the problem, even in a new vehicle, i.e., plugs and wires? Lis
