Speakers in "roll" light bar?

Just a thought, since the rear speakers in the nilla vert are somewhat low and blocked by the seat cusions (nice design DC!) what about carving some lil speakers into the insde of the light bar...perhaps add a mid and small rage on each side...will add nice sound to the cabin. ---------- 2005 Touring Edition Convertible Turbo 2.4L LITE Automatic, cool vanilla, faux Street Edition badging, K&N drop in filter, modded airbox, mini-chrome side flames, chrome gas cap cover, customized rear mud flaps, flying siberian husky fur when top dropped.

I thought about that when I upgraded my navi system, but it is very shallow in there. The speakers would need to less than 1" deep or would need to be mounted to the outside of the plastic. I ended up just putting Infinity 3-way 6X9's in the back instead. 6X9 is the standard size that fits the rear even though they only look like 6 or 6.5" round. Behind the panel are metal speaker holders that fit 6X9's. I used Infinity 6.5" components in front and an Audiobahn 600 watt 4-channel amp connected to the stock Navi system with crossover connections for the Bazooka tube 10" sub in the trunk. Plenty of power to hear the music at 85mph and the top and windows down! If you are going to do it, I would suggest getting a professional installers opinion on what would work best. ----------

Thanks for the insight, and yes it will go to a pro for install ond a full spec. What about the lil speakers on the top of the dash? Did you change them. I hear Boston Acoutics are all the rage. Did the bazooka take up a bunch of trunk room? ---------- 2005 Touring Edition Convertible Turbo 2.4L LITE Automatic, cool vanilla, faux Street Edition badging, K&N drop in filter, modded airbox, mini-chrome side flames, chrome gas cap cover, customized rear mud flaps, flying siberian husky fur when top dropped.

I did NOT use the dash speakers. I just unhooked them. They would have been blown apart by my amp. I COULD have placed the component tweeters from the Infinity's there, but perfered to place them below the door handles. I just am not much for speakers in the dash. Plus, it is A LOT of work to get the dash up and out to do the mounting there and since I did the install myself, I didn't want to chance breaking something. It was much easier to just pull the door panels. The Bazooka tube fits perfectly in the hole for the pass through behind the seats and since it is all plug and play, when I need the space, I can just unplug it and leave it in the garage. BA's are very nice speakers. It really just depends on how much you are willing to spend on tunes for your ride. I spent about $700 and got a lot of sound. It is amazing how fast auto sound adds up. The first estimate I got was almost $2K, then I decided I wasn't that interested in pro sound. And that did not include a head unit, since I like the DC/Alpine navi unit that my car came with. That was just speakers, amp, sub and install. In the future I may go crazy and spend 3 or 4 g's on some outrageous system, but there are a lot of other things I want to do to my car. Besides, I've already got at least an extra 4g in the car right now. But it is worth it to see the looks I get when I break the tires loose for 50 yards. ----------

Yeah I thought the dash speakers would be a naughty prospect which is why I asked. I am not and audiophile, just a nice inexpensive system with some clear lows n highs is all I am seeking, this stock item is a bit bland. Your car looks awesome, and yes it is fun blowing by as I am sure people get WOW'd seeing such speed from the PT. These cars rock. ---------- 2005 Touring Edition Convertible Turbo 2.4L LITE Automatic, cool vanilla, faux Street Edition badging, K&N drop in filter, modded airbox, mini-chrome side flames, chrome gas cap cover, customized rear mud flaps, flying siberian husky fur when top dropped.

Well, inexpensive is going to be hard if you want it installed. Also depends if you plan on changing the stock head unit. They can get pricey. You are going to be hard pressed to get away under a grand. Installation prices are outrageous. Thanks for the thumbs up on my car. The picture in the avatar is old and does not include the Xenon skirts I have now or the Xenon rear bumper that will be installed soon, I got rear ended and it only damaged the bumper. So the guys insurance is paying for that upgrade! I don't think that picture has my H&R springs either which give it 1.5" lower stance. Once I get the rear fixed I'll post up some new pics. ----------

One thing to remember is that the rear speakers are just fillers. Usually you send about 25% of what you're sending to the front speakers, to the rear speakers. I think I have about 25 or 30 watts going to the rears. Since we were getting a new head unit and other things installed, we had the component speakers, including the dash tweeters, upgraded. We put a less expensive line of MQuart in the rear. The installation wasn't that bad since we were having so much upgraded at once. The difference in stock sound versus the upgrade is like night and day. With everything in the audio section of my sig, including parts and installation, was about $3700. Yes, the fuel door is just the stick on one. They do have a new full replacement. You can get it from cruisermotorsports.com My car is still in the body shop. The idiots pulled my rear bumper off when I told them not to. I told them the Xenon was just a cover and not to mess with the dented stock bumper, but they pulled it anyway. Then it took them a full extra day to reinstall a bumper that wasn't quite right and it appartently took them a bunch of time to get it back on right since it was damaged. Then they had to fit the Xenon cover. I should have it back tomarrow, but that puts me into next week to get the exhuast reworked to do the duals which should have been done tomarrow. ----------

Well, it's time for me to change the wimpy sound system on my '05 vert. Anyone have a clue how to remove rear panels in order to install new 6x9's ? Also, see below Audiobahn speakers. Should I remove tweets and mound them on dash or leave 'em alone? Here's what I got so far for $197 on eBay: Kenwood KDC-MP2032 Head RMS = 22Wx4, Peak = 50Wx4 3 Band Equalizer 2 sets pre-amp outs XM/Sirius ready (in case) Front Speakers Audiobahn ACS2062N 2-way 6-3/4" speakers Indigo blue poly carbon cone with rubber surround Removable aluminum dome tweeter with mounting hardware External crossovers (12 dB per octave slope) Power range: 2-100 watts RMS Frequency response: 40-22,000 Hz Sensitivity: 94 dB Top-mount depth: 2-9/16" Rear Speakers ????????????? Any suggestions? Subwoofer Bazooka Tube ??? (need something that won't take up too much room in trunk) I plan to do install myself, but it's tax time and I'm an accountant - so probably weekend job. PS: I also own an '03 Honda Element for daily use, but the PT 'vert is my pampered, garage-kept baby. On a different note, I bought a winged hood ornament from a 1939 Chrysler that I plan to re-chrome and install for that real retro look; pictures posted when done. ----------

Solunds like your vert will be a screeeeeeeemer. I read on thsi site that the tweeters are tough to play with due to them being up on the dash. Where did you find the 39 chrome hood ornament...I'd love to do something like that as well, lemme know how you apply it. Yup, I had the roll bar idea too, but... As for the hood ornament, try eBay and search under "hood ornament Chrysler". I paid about $15 plus shipping, although the price goes up exponentially as the condition improves. Mine is in fairly good condition; some pitting on the chrome, but not too bad. Basically, it's a pair of art deco wings, about 20" long x 4" wide x 3" high, tapering to a point from front to back. The front was severely curved to fit the old-style drop curve on late '30s & '40s cars. I took a wire hanger, covered my "baby's" hood with a blanket so as not to scratch it, then bent the hanger until it had the same contour of the PT hood. Next, I traced the contour from the hanger to the side of the hood ornament with a marker. I then whipped-out that marvelous, omnipotent tool: the Dremel, and cut the front of the hood ornament. A little grinding with the Dremel and voila! a perfect fit. I have yet to have the ornament sent to a shop for re-chroming, as that gets pricey (about $150), but Valentines Day is around the corner and my wife asked: "honey, what do you want for V-Day?" Funny, women don't understand the romanticism of car parts or electronics. Next will be 4 chrome moon wheels and 4 new big fat white wall tires (although I'm hesitant about the quality) for that '30s retro look. I already have the chrome front grill on, but would get chrome bumpers if I had the $$$ (it's tax time and I'm an accountant, so maybe the cash will come around). As for the speakers, I may try my hand at carefully cutting around the plastic moulded grills on the dash and rear panels with an exacto knife, change the speakers and carefully re-attach the moulding with a bead of clear silicone adhesive - has anyone tried that before? Pictures to be posted later - now back to those bastards at the Infernal Revenue Service ----------

Hey, I will search ebay for the hood ornament, sounds like a killer idea... and plan to mount it. Will use use adhesive to place on the hood?
