Stainless Hood Struts Can't Post

Hi everyone,

I searched the archives, but could not find anything that answered my exact questions.

Lately I have been thinking about adding a hydraulic hood strut kit (with chrome or stainless sleeves, of course). My parents HHR has those struts from the factory and at first I hated them because the hood slams shut and flies out of my hands, but after a while I started to like them. Sometimes I find the little prop rod to be flimsy and hard to reach sometimes since it is at the back of the hood. To be honest I never really liked/trusted any prop rods. I have heard of some people who damage the hood because of them.

This is the kit I am thinking of getting (not necessarily from this vendor):
http://www.autotrucktoys.com/p tcruiser/Revelations-Chrysler-PT-Cruiser-Chrome-Dual-Hood-Strut-Kit-with-Stainless-Strut-Covers-P10761C1654.aspx

My questions are as follows:

The instructions say easy no drilling 20 min. installation. Is this true?

How smooth and gentle are they when opening and closing the hood? I do not want the hood torn from my hands.

Is there any interference that could cause scratches, dents ,ect.? I also have a car bra that can be figety sometimes and I do not want to choose between the struts or the car bra.

For those who have had them for a long time. Do they last a long time? I do not want to have to replace them every 3-5 years.

Thanks in advance

I've had my hood struts for about 41/2 years. No drilling required and easy to install, easy to open and close.

Yes! very simple mod took me 20min then another couple to correct the way i pu them on. Just follow the instructions.

I turned the struts the correct way since this pic.
But will work the same. just want them to look correct
I'm also getting the stainless steel covers for the front and rear.
I may end up painting the brackets the body color. but can live with the Black for now.

Re: [Dsmith] Stainless Hood Struts Can't Post

Thanks for the help everyone.

Dsmith,
Thanks for the picture, I was wandering how those brackets would go on. Your PT is almost the same color as mine, so I guess that is how the black bracket will look. Since I do not have any chrome under the hood, I will have to think which kit will go better because I do not want to spend the extra $$$ ($99-$179) that could have gone into something else. I recently got a new toy that has taken some attention away from my PT.

Thanks again

leo

if your not worried about flashy looks go with the black set. you can always add the stainless covers later. Maggie gave me a good deal on them when i changed my mind. also a can a spray paint to change the bracket color won't be much.
I wanna add some chrome under the hood in the future but not alot.

I forgot to ask if anyone has used a car bra with these hood struts? It looks like the bracket would interfere with the clip on the side by the fender.

I've had no problems using a Mopar Bra.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

The car bra I use is a "perfect fit", but I see no reason why the two brands should differ.

Thanks
