Starter problem? Can't Post

This morning I walk outside to start my car and it doesn't turn over. I turned the key and there was a low staccatto clicking coming from what I think is the starter. It had power to radio and everything. It just took a couple minutes and different attempts to get it to start. This is the second time it's happened within about 2months.

Has anyone had this or no what it is? Problem is I've got about 400 miles left on warranty. If I take it in and they cannot replicate the problem it won't get fixed. Could it be something simple like plugs and wires? I haven't upgraded to "good" ones yet.

thx.

Have you verified that the battery is good? You could have a dead cell and still have power for your radio, lights, etc.., but not enough to turn the engine over.

IF you eventually started the engine, I would be cleaning all the battery connections. Sounds like you have corrosion on the terminals or ground connection (engine to frame -passenger side). Also check all the grounds (there are many) under the fender lip next to the battery. (loosen and retighten)

Yea it did eventually start. Hrmm, Corrosion or loose connection makes sense. I'll check in the morning.

thx.

Shortly after getting our '03 in '05 (and never previously owned with 19 miles), I was checking things out underhood and found corrosion on the battery. Since the battery is covered it can be easily forgotten. You may want to have the battery checked anyway after you clean it. there are numerous places that will check it for free (hoping to sell you one).

well, I checked the terminal connections. There was no corrosion, and connections tight. I didn't get a chance to check the others being as it's raining . It happend again today twice so I think I'll take it to the dealer to see since it's still under warranty..........Mad

You MUST loosen all scews/nuts/bolts and shift the cables then retighten. Just checking to see if the cables are tight will NOT correct an electrical corrosion problem. You have to break the cables loose, move them around (better to remove them and clean them up with 200 grit sand paper and add a little WD40) put them back on and tighten.

FIXED! I took it into the dealer, they replaced the wire to the starter, the terminals and the battery. For free with no hassle. I've actually had good service with this dealer. They will probably get my business again.Cool
