Search the forums. This topic has been discussed many many times. Chrysler has issued a TSB to repair the problem, but only for cruisers under warranty. Some have pushed it and gotten it done later. Try contacting your dealer and have him escalate it to the regional D/C rep. Recently I've read of folks buying the paint that Chryler uses in a can and spraying the bumpers themselves. BTW, typing all in caps is like yelling, no need to yell around here. ----------

Hello. As Taz said, this is a long standing problem from cruisers in 2001,like mine .There are a # of things that you can do yourself to help minimise this problem. One of the easiest fixes is to go to your local auto parts store and pick up Mothers Back to Black.Coat the bumpers as directed every 3 months. This is my method of handling it.You can also paint your bumpers, but keep in mind that when they get hit by whatever, you are obligating yourself to a repaint. There also are items, although pricey, called bumper covers which cover the front and rear bumpers in full.If you press your dealer he may fix it,because D/C knows that this problem originated with them.I hope this helps. All the best and God Bless. ---------- Mike Casabianca His: 2001 Black LE with Auto Transmission, BullDog Signs Flames, WeatherTec wind deflectors, cargo area mat, PT trash can, PT valve stem caps and Dart's coldair intake, chrome tail and headlight bezels, chrome bumper inserts, chrome license plate pillow, chrome fender trim, 1940's retro chrome on front and back fenders, door spears, chrome hatch door trim, chrome gas door, brushed chrome door sills, billet door pins, custom "BlueHaze" dash mat, MRK Group lugnut covers, dome light trim, etc. and the chrome goes on...... Hers: 2003 Patriot Blue Woody with Automatic Transmission, Bulldog Signs Eeyore, Cargo area mat, WeatherTec wind deflectors, PT valve stem caps, PT trash can, "BlueHaze" custom dash mat, and chrome tailpipe extension, "Old School" wood shifter knob, wood and chrome door pins, MRK Group interior knob and switch covers, door surrounds, and dome light trim, chrome door surround trim, white eeyore window decals, smoothie hub cap, wood eeyore plaques ....and the Wood goes on http://community.webshots.com/user/mdcvmvc

My car had the worst you have ever seen. The dealers know that there is a TSB on the '01-'03 PT's. My advice is to go ape S*!t at the dealer. They will blow you off if you go in with a passive additude. They don't want a pi$$ed customer around other customers / potential buyers. I had my 2001 bumpers fixed in 2002, before the TSB, and before most started complaining. I didn't complain to the dealer but "mattter-of-factly" told him of the problem...and demostrated it with the used PT's on HIS lot....he fixed mine without question. I disagree that you have to act like an a s s to get things done at a dealer. Use facts and talk in a consumer to consumer tone to the Service Manager or his boss. ----------

Just stating facts. My friend had the same problem, went to the same dealer, asked about the tape marks, and was told we can't do anything about it. I went 2 days later, and had the problem fixed with no questions asked. ---------- Joe Somereve Northeast Regional Director & New York State Director. They look something like this? There is a TSB that will fix it.. If you need it PM me I can e-mail you a copy. It may not be done under warranty but any bodyshop can do the fix. This bumper was installed 6/2001(car accident). The OEM bumper installed factory 8/2000 did not have the tape marks, the rear never got them in 5 years. So it was a change in the production that makes those marks.

Hi Bluz.Joe PT is from my neck of the woods, and the vast majority of dealers around here take meakness and professional attitude for weakness.I first tried the mellow approach but found that here you get much farther with an attitude,A .357 ,and a kind word, than just a kind word alone. It is a unfortunate byproduct of the way customers are treated. All the best, and God Bless You and Yours. ---------- Mike Casabianca His: 2001 Black LE with Auto Transmission, BullDog Signs Flames, WeatherTec wind deflectors, cargo area mat, PT trash can, PT valve stem caps and Dart's coldair intake, chrome tail and headlight bezels, chrome bumper inserts, chrome license plate pillow, chrome fender trim, 1940's retro chrome on front and back fenders, door spears, chrome hatch door trim, chrome gas door, brushed chrome door sills, billet door pins, custom "BlueHaze" dash mat, MRK Group lugnut covers, dome light trim, etc. and the chrome goes on...... Hey Taz,thanks for the further explaination to Bluz.Unfortunately it isn't just them.I have received identical bad treatment in every Chrysler Dealer in both Southern Westchester and upper Bronx County NY.I just say the hell with it and just bring MS.CRN to my mechanic. He takes care of the warrantee and life is grand.I have had the same mechanic for 20 years so I avoid hassles and bring it to him.Gin's PT gets all its service in the Chrysler dealer in Fair Haven VT.when we go to the inlaws to visit.Alll the best and may God Bless You. ---------- Mike Casabianca His: 2001 Black LE with Auto Transmission, BullDog Signs Flames, WeatherTec wind deflectors, cargo area mat, PT trash can, PT valve stem caps and Dart's coldair intake, chrome tail and headlight bezels, chrome bumper inserts, chrome license plate pillow, chrome fender trim, 1940's retro chrome on front and back fenders, door spears, chrome hatch door trim, chrome gas door, brushed chrome door sills, billet door pins, custom "BlueHaze" dash mat, MRK Group lugnut covers, dome light trim, etc. and the chrome goes on...... I've been REAL lucky and never got the dreaded tape marks. 4CRUISN was built 8/00 and delivered 9/4/00. I've not had to do anything, except use the Back to Black or Tire Slick to cover up some white marks left behind when the guy painted my frontend. As far as the Northeast having poop headed dealers, you're not alone! Here in Carlsbad, NM the good ol' boys are alive and well.....to get anything done like this is like pulling teeth. They are pickup guys, that's all they care about is selling pickups and they won't sponsor any PT stuff. They wouldn't even put up a flyer about an event I'm having up in the mountains in October. There's nothing like a bad dealer.....it's like having a bad teacher.

So was mine! Date of build 8/2/2000 so we know its a change in production cause my rear never got it either front did cause it was replaced in 6/01.. No dealers everywhere are pig-headed.. Last dealer I fired, updated my PCM with an update for an automatic transmission PT.. Umm yeah I have a 5-speed.. And then they tried to give me the PT back sputtering and just running worse than when I brought it in! ----------
