Re: [MICKEY41] That "Other" Retro Wagon... Can't Post

There are some aspects of the HHR design I actually prefer over the PT, specifically the chopped roof look and the way the windows are set in the doors. But I rented one for a week a couple of years ago while back in Michigan for my dad's funeral and I have to say, the driving experience was horrid - it uses a really nasty "drive by wire" steering system that feels totally unnatural and gives no feedback at all - and the interior was an absolute joke. Yes, my rental was a base model, but the quality of plastics in this thing was among the worst I've ever seen. Ergonomically it was a failure as well - I couldn't get my hand between the seat and door to adjust the seat, the window switches are at the bottom of the center stack and even with my 36" reach I had to, well, reach for them, and the steering wheel was constructed of a very hard, coarse material that was actually uncomfortable to hold. Seriously, how long can you drive a car without holding on to the steering wheel????? I wrote a fairly extensive review on the HHR over at PTCrew.com shortly after getting back home, and I likened the look and feel of the dashboard to a dead alligator, it was that bad.

But if felt pretty solid, rode well and was reasonably quiet. The suspension did not like broken Michigan roads though, and it was dead slow. The interior of the PT is just so far superior, which is funny because the HHR is essentially Chevy's version of the same car, penned by the same designer. Wouldn't you think that if you had five years to study a car before copying it, you would look at all the little things you didn't like, or didn't work quite right, and improve on them? Yeah, me too. But if you take both cars side by side and show them to someone who knows nothing about either, and then ask that person which one came first and which was the copy, I'll bet they'd think the PT was the copy. It is just so much better in execution.

Well, you got plenty of people here to disparage the HHR. I'd recommend you go to http://www.hhrclub.org
and post the question there.

Here, most people really prefer the PT (as do I), but you might get some valuable alternate opinions over there! Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion, but it seems unkind to wander over there and likely ruffle their feathers.
My intend wasn't to get anyone in this group to disparage anything.
There's things I like about the HHR. Just happen to like more things about the Cruiser.
It's nice to see retro-style vehicles on the road these days.
The more the merrier.

Re: [Clive G] That "Other" Retro Wagon... Can't Post

When my father-in-law visited last he rented an HHR because he knew I was interested in driving one. I do like the exterior looks of the HHR and the one he rented was in white which is may favorite color on that vehicle. The interior however was awful, just awful. The interior reminded my of a potiac vibe (which in my opinion has the worlds worst interior). Everything in the interior appears to be an afterthought and little things like the window controls being completely out of reach while you are driving makes your driving experience a frustrating one.

I will buy one if they do the HHR Panel SS and this a chop from the GM insider that gives you a idea of what i was going to do if I got one, and before Jr jumped ship and lost Budweiser sponsorship.

I like the SS front end a lot better than the chrome grill/ front bumper

CheeringHI DAVID, I like this too, the Budweiser one, very nice. I am really surprised from a distance and seeing a HHR coming towards you, you think it is a PT cruiser but then as it gets closer, you realize it is off. I have honked and waved before, then got that sinking feeling and red faced at my mistake. I make sure now I am sure of the aknowledgement. They sure tried to copy us, but didn't quite get it done. PT RULES!!! MICKEYWave

Re: [MICKEY41] That "Other" Retro Wagon... Can't Post

We are here because we have a tremendous like (I love my wife, and I love God-sorry, it just doesn't compare) for our PT Cruisers. It creates a special excitement when talking about them. Therefore, rabbit trails, to me, are quite excetable as it becomes difficult sometimes to contain oneself as one thing always leads to another and you just have to let it out and there is no time to start a new thread.

I have to admit, I do like the tail lights on the HHR but that's all.

Somebody here stated it reminded them of an old suburban. It seems to me that I heard that's what it was designed after-I think it was a 1949 Suburban to be exact.

I saw one the other day with a spoiler on the back. It did not compliment the car at all. The spoiler actually made the car look worse. Funny...

CoolWe each love our particular cars and that is as it should be.I must give Chevy credit for listening to both the PT and HHR camps for putting out the Panel Van and for the Supercharged Model soon to come out.We have been asking Chrysler to make a Panel Van model for years and it took Chevy 2 Years to come out with thier model.I am looking foward to seeing what the SS Model will do on the track. It will also be nice to see what they do when making a convertible model. There is room for both of us and in the final analysis the only opinion that counts is the one of the person who is making the note payments. The whole debate may be moot when Chrysler Discontinues the PT line because Chevy will win the battle by default......Peace Out and God Bless....Mike

I just hope that all the new blood in Chrysler LLC brings Chrysler back to what it was befor Daimler bled it dry.

That is why I say we haft to fight for the PT. I wounder how the 5 speed Manual trany will hold up to 260 HP. you should start hearing the gripes soon after they punch it a few times.

Cool You are correct in your assessment that we must continue to fight for our beloved PT.It defies logic why chrysler would consider discontinuing the line altogether.I hope that Chrysler LLC will start listening to us again and make the panel van and other improved versions of the PT.If they make it we will come.Peace Out and may God Bless.........Mike
