How Much would I expect to pay,, [ fair range for timing belt and tensioner replacement and waterpump all in one....????? Timing Belt Reclacement Cost? and Procedure Help. I took my 2002 2.4 4cyl to the local garage to get a Est on replacement of the timing / valve belt.. He really looked like he didnt want to do it,, he said he would call me with a $$ amount and never called back... Usually this guy is eating up business....???? 1. I just turned 90k on her. is it due or what is the appropiate amount of milage to change this belt...? 2. In this an interferience or non interference motor..? If it breaks is there motor damage or do i just need a toe...? 3. I changed it on my 2003 ford focus at 100k and it was NOT a fun job but is this a nitemare job...? 4. Is there someplace that outlines the job,, step by step....?? 5. do u replace "other stuff" while u are in there... On my focus I replaced the rensioner pully at the same time...?? Any Advice appreciated.. ----------

This topic has be discussed at lenght in serveral other threads. A quick search should return plenty of info. Here are some relevant threads: Below are the short answers to your questions. 1. I just turned 90k on her. is it due or what is the appropiate amount of milage to change this belt...? Factory service manual says 120K, but given the age of the car and that just over the last couple of months a number of people on this forum have reported them failing with lower mileages, I would say replace it ASAP. Quote: 2. In this an interferience or non interference motor..? If it breaks is there motor damage or do i just need a toe...? non-inerference, but there may be a chance the valves might hit one another if the cams spin out of synch. Quote: 3. I changed it on my 2003 ford focus at 100k and it was NOT a fun job but is this a nitemare job...? The job is more complicated on the PT. Quote: 4. Is there someplace that outlines the job,, step by step....?? Service manual. Quote: 5. do u replace "other stuff" while u are in there... On my focus I replaced the rensioner pully at the same time...?? Belt, tensioner, and water pump.

So now that you've hopefully had time to catch up with your reading, you see that the answer to your question is in the threads I had referred you to in my first reply. People are getting different quotes that swing wildly, but if you read the thread you get a sense for it. ---------- 2001 silver Limited-Touring (leather/suede, 4W disk, traction, heated mirrors & all :-) Mods: Tokico HP all around / Energy Suspension Master Kit / K&N drop-in / R1 Concepts drilled & slotte disks all around / Enkei RPF1 16x7 wheels & Conti Extreme Contact rubber / Prestige APS620 remote starter

In July 07 I took my "01" with 110,000 miles on it to the dealer and had the water pump and timing belt replaced for $858.78. Probably should have had more done than that now from what I've heard, but they did what I ask them to do. Tensioner and.... we'll see. I plan on keeping it for a very long time. ---------- If it's gonna happen - it's gonna happen out there.

I have almost 60k miles on my dreamer. I have purchased all the needed parts; belt, tensioner, water pump, manual. I'm waiting for better weather as I will need to do the job in my driveway since the Barracuda is taking up the garage. ---------- DC1 #1610--5-speed. Its got some stuff. Never can be too careful. I have had timing belt issues before in another mopar vehicle. Besides, I'm anxious to do some head-work. I also have been waiting to add new exhaust system (headers-back, 2 1/2 inch). ---------- DC1 #1610--5-speed. Its got some stuff. '03 Inferno Red--Its getting some stuff too!

I stopped by our local Chrysler today to pick up a couple of 2008 calender's so wwhile I was there I asked the service Manager, the same guy who put on my convertible top for free ,how much it would cost to get a timing belt put on. First ,he said that they should last to around 130,000 miles .Anything lower then that and it may not be the belt. The labor would be around eight hours. With a new tensioner and water pump the total price would be $1270.00 The belt only cost.$45.00 n So while I was there I also asked him what the lower control arm cost .Just the part. And it was $144.00.. Now we know. ---------- big jim

Guess I'll be saving a bunch of money then when I do the job myself. I wonder what all those people whose timing belt went out at under 100,000 miles have to say about that? Of course I could guess... ---------- DC1 #1610--5-speed. Its got some stuff. '03 Inferno Red--Its getting some stuff too!

People at Chrysler sure have an attitude about the PT for some reason. They say that there's nothing wrong with the Lower control arms, but why are they selling so many in the parts department. Maybe if we didn't buy these parts and let them go bad, then maybe there would be a recall on these parts. But first we have to complain. Tie rods ends and timing belts seem to be next. There's a service Bulletin about the 01 and the 02 about the spark plugs and wire's . Are they afraid that if there's a recall that big that Chrysler will go under? When I complained about my convertible top ,the service manager acted as if ,Do you really want me to get if fixed atitude. I had to push him into action. ---------- big jim

Well, that's probably a thread that can run all by itself. I'm sure there are many things to be said about level of service recieved from our local dealers... ---------- DC1 #1610--5-speed. Its got some stuff. '03 Inferno Red--Its getting some stuff too!

Should cost around $700 to $900 depending on parts replaced. water pump, tensioner, and belt of course. all the acc. drive belts have to come off as well so . easiest thing to do is find a a dodge or Chrysler dealer (preferably an SRT-4 trained tech for turbo pts) let them deal with it. they are not fun and some times the evacuate the A/C system to do it. depends on the shop hince teh spread for 6 to 3 hours. AllData a.k.a "SomeData" puts book time at about 6 hours and warranty is 2.8 I think. ---------- 04 "SRT-4" PT Cruiser w/ AutoStick (in Sea Mist Green, 1 of 146) Stage 1, Mopar BOV, MagnaFlow exhaust, Mopar 7.5mm wires, Mopar-Bosch Plugs gapped at .035, Mopar air filter, unrestricted air box, H&R sport springs, Progress 27mm front sway bar, Energy Suspension motor mount inserts, 06' tail lights, 06' Hood emblem, T-handle on rear glass, SRT-4 badges, factory chrome accent group, chrome door cups, 8" Mopar sub, ArmourFend ClearBra.
