Tires...from factory

I have had my nilla vert for a few weeks, and have been scouring the web on all the info on the car. I have been reading that the factory tires stink over and over again. My 05 TE has 8k on it and I am not sure what the tire from the factory was? Can someone plase tell me the tire model. I have GoodYears on there now, not sure how long they have been on but they appear new and fresh. Thx ---------- 2005 Touring Edition Convertible Turbo 2.4L LITE Automatic, cool vanilla, faux Street Edition badging, K&N drop in filter, modded airbox, mini-chrome side flames, chrome gas cap cover, customized rear mud flaps, flying siberian husky fur when top dropped.

Goodyears are the original tires and people do complain considerably about them. My first cruiser had goodyears and they were fine. It still had the original tires with plenty of tread and 33K miles when I traded it. ----------

Both of my PTs had the badyears on them. Terrible tires, very poor wear and very prone to road hazards. I replaced two on my '01 in the first 30,000 due to bubbles and two failed on my 05 due to sidewall damage in less than 10,000 miles. I have since put Michilins on both cars. The 01 has over 50K on the tires and has about 5 to 7K left on them. ----------

Well...I put a big FAT RED CHECKMARK in the "Tires Suck" box. Here's my story. We've had TWO unfixable flats after driving over potholes. Both within two months of each other. These tires seem like they are made out of balloons to me. The BEST flat was the last flat. Here's the story: My husband and I bought a country house and last weekend we were moving two packed cars worth of items to the house on a Friday night. We were leaving Houston at dusk. He had the golden retriever in his front seat and I had our ****ateil in mine in the cruiser. I was following him. He turned and I was to follow but could not get over. I missed the turn, hit a pothole and had an instant flat. My cell phone was buried in the back seat under a ton of stuff I'd packed in there. Of course it was buried! Murphey's law. SO, by now it was dark. I pulled over on the shoulder and put the top down and proceeded to unload the back seat on the shoulder to get to the cell that (I know) should have been in my pocket or at least accessible in the front seat. It was COLD, and my poor little ****ateil was quite fluffed up looking in the breeze. I finally got to the cell phone and called my husband who was wondering where in the world I was. He returned. We called triple A and TWO HOURS LATER they still had not come. Some move. We thought we were just going to have to go home. My husband has a hernia and there was no way I wanted him to jack up the car and do the change. He needs surgery! So..we finally called a gas station that was about 5 miles away that had replaced the tire on the first pothole related flat. They said they could get another tire for us and did, they sent a tow truck to change the HARD TO CHANGE spare that is located UNDER the car, and we were off to the gas station to get the tire changed and continue our move. We pulled into the country house about 11:00 at night and unloaded by moonlight and stars. How romantic, right? yea, it was, actually. Full moon. coyotes howling in the distance. Fun. In addition to the flats from potholes, I have had two flats from nails or simple loss of air. These tires are tiny, dinky little excuses for tires, if you ask me. I have never had flats from potholes before, now two in a row. I too will change my tires to Michelins, and I will go up to the 17 inch tires. Linda in Houston Who, despite this story, still LOVES her red vert joymobile. ---------- linda

Yes, the PT comes with either the GoodYear Eagle LS or GoodYear RSA tires. Both are below-average tires by most accounts. Here's an excellent alternative: http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/findTireByBrandDetail.do?rcz=49345&rc=MIGINT&cs=205&pc=28869&typ=Passenger%2FPerformance&rd=16&ar=60 ---------- "You can fool some of the people all of the time." ...and thanks to the presidential approval polls we even know the exact percentage.
