Treating the top???
|
Can't Post
|

Well today was the first rain of the season and it's making me nervous. I ordered the RAGGTOP kit to treat the convertible top but I'm not sure if I need it. They say if the water doesn't bead then you should treat it. My top does bead a little but it seems to soak and hold a lot of water too. I don't know what I should do... Any suggestions? ----------

There is no reason not to put it on, it does not cost that much & you can't over protect the top, put it on now and you are set for the winter. ---------- '05 GT Dream Cruiser Series 4. No.1109 My Mods PT Trailer Project Our PTs

Okay I'll go ahead and do it! But I think I read somewhere that if u spray too much of the protectant stuff... not the cleaner, that it won't work or something? ----------

That's good advice, clean the top first. The stuff I bought came as a kit with cleaner and protectant. Or you can buy the protectant and use your own cleaner. Either way, clean it first. ---------- 2005 Bright Silver Convertible, 5 speed with 8 ball knob, chrome door spears, chrome gas cap door, chrome antenna bezel, chrome grill kit, chrome rear bumper pillows, chrome bumper trim, stainless antenna with flames, stainless door panel trim, chrome smoothies with baby moons, 2" wide "gangster" white walls, chrome tail light trim, K&N air filter element in a modified airbox and an oogah horn. Okay so it was a nice day and I received the kit in the mail but before I was gonna use it I was gonna inspect the top and noticed 3 things. Here is some pics....
This is on the drivers side above the side view mirror it's like peeling back, the passenger side isn't as bad but looks like it's getting there. And the drivers side is having a minor leak near here.
The fraying is caused from the top rubbing on itself when it's completely down. You can here it squeak when it rubs and this pic doesn't do it justice, it's worse than it looks. Oh and its on the passenger side.
And this is where the back window on the drivers side rolls up, it's hard to see in the pic.... It's taken with my phone (Sidekick 3) It isn't tucked in it kinda is like flopped out. I noticed a little water getting in on that side. I think it is actually part of the top. I have tried to tuck it back in but it's too short. Hmmm sorry about the crappy pics but this is a lot that shouldn't be happening. And so I think I'll have to take it to another dealer. The one here in my town is kinda getting annoyed with me. ----------

Get your PT back to the dealer. I had an odd thing happen where the seal was loosened and a leak started. They fixed it right away...I have seen ALL convertibles get a lil nappy where they fold, even Jags and Porsches so nothing to do but deal with that I guess. ---------- 2005 Touring Edition Convertible Turbo 2.4L LITE Automatic, cool vanilla, faux Street Edition badging, K&N drop in filter, modded airbox, mini-chrome side flames, chrome gas cap cover, customized rear mud flaps, flying siberian husky fur when top dropped.

GRRR I'm so mad I could spit! I brought my car in for the seatbelt light..... again! And to get the flipped out seal fixed. Well they walked with me to my car to show me what they did and I noticed they put this different seal that isn't fuzzy like the old one, it's just rubber and looks hideous. I figured I would let them know later because I didn't get a real good look at it. When I got in the car the seatbelt was new (Drivers side) and when I buckled it it was twisted, like the passenger side was when I bought the car. I showed that to them b4 I left and now I'm bringing it on Thursday! But to put the icing on the cake MY WINDOW WON'T ROLL UP ON THE SIDE WHERE THEY PUT THE NEW SEAL!!! So the back drivers side. Well it rolls up but doesn't go into the new seal. I called and gave it to em'! I'm really never rude or anything but this is getting ridiculous! I love the PT though! Haha! And to think b4 I left, the really nice service manager gave me a sch-peal on how their service isn't being thought too highly of and that I should fill out the form they are sending and say they 100% satisfied me with the service. Pshhh yah rite! ----------

Here is what I have discovered...everything fixed once...needs to be fixed twice!!!...no one really takes pride in there work any more and we are too busy to really protest the way we use to. It's a shame but thats the facts. If we can put up with a bad job then they can move on to more bad jobs. Keep them honest, get your car perfect thats what you deserve!! ----------

I'm so upset! U guys have no idea. I really need the number to call Chrysler because the dealership really did it this time! So I brought my car in this morning to fix what was supposed to be fixed on tuesday. When I picked it up they tell me the seatbelt is fixed and that they can't put the old seal on because chrysler has discontinued the part and has redesigned it because of other people having issues like mine. But they assured me that it seals fine and blah blah blah. I get home and check it out and BAM it's not working! The window still won't seal! I decided to check the strap in the top that they "made adjustments" to. U know the one from the other thread that causes bunching. So I partially put the top down so I could get a better look inside and THEY STAPLED THE STRAP TOGETHER! I'm not even kidding! I am gonna post pics in a minute but what do you think I should do? I'm only 19 years old so it's not like they take me seriously anyways while I'm in their so should I call and ask to talk to the owners of the dealership? ----------

So the first is the gap of the window not rolling up properly and not fitting in the new seal. The second is the GAWD AWFUL STAPLE THEY PUT IN THE TOP! and the third shows is just the rubber seal to show the difference. ----------

Ok, dealers at times can be ridiculous. I am sure you are sharp enough to know if you are being hoodwinked, but to be on the safe side take an older person with you would have some business/negotiation savvy. If anything there is power in numbers. Tell them this...Here are my keys, here is a list of items that need to be fixed and how I want them fixed, do it and do it right. If they do not do these repairs they should be ready to supply you with a new PT of the same value as a replacement. Also ask them for the home office number, bring your cell and start calling right there. I am sure someone on this site knows the office info for you to get in touch. You items seem minor so I am not sure why they are screwing it up. My PT had an engine tap and I brought it in, they immediately opened up the engine and replaced the valves / rings n stuff...this was part of a recall. It can be tough, but turn the tables on them, it is their product and they must be responsible. Tell them you will call the better business bureau as well. Tell them you will place their dealership name on every PT cruiser site as an awful place to go. Hope it works out ---------- 2005 Touring Edition Convertible Turbo 2.4L LITE Automatic, cool vanilla, faux Street Edition badging, K&N drop in filter, modded airbox, mini-chrome side flames, chrome gas cap cover, customized rear mud flaps, flying siberian husky fur when top dropped.

Ok I dropped my PT at the dealer tonoght. First my parking brake keeps coming on, fluid goes low, brakes work fine so that they will need to check on. Also I told them the top is wearing out, simply put the top should not have shiny wear marks on it as these will eventually become rubbed out holes. Some loose threads on the top seams also were noted. I asked them to change my oil with synthetic, check the front end alignment ( car was shaky at 60mph on the way up there) so that is that I will update when i can. ---------- 2005 Touring Edition Convertible Turbo 2.4L LITE Automatic, cool vanilla, faux Street Edition badging, K&N drop in filter, modded airbox, mini-chrome side flames, chrome gas cap cover, customized rear mud flaps, flying siberian husky fur when top dropped.
