Tune up -- Parts recomendations?

All: Next week I will be performing the 35K checkup on my 2005 Limited. I have the Purolator PureOne Oil filter for it...same as my Saturn..go figure. I also plan on running regular 5w-30 oil in it. I am looking for your ideas on Spark Plugs and an Air filter. I am not going to upgrade to the KN FIPK kit just yet but I am looking for a good filter to fit in the stock location. Any one running Synthetic oil and like it? As always...thanks in advance. PTZee ----------

1st, as for plugs, I run NGK iridiums--I found noticeable improvement in both PTC's when changed to these. Don't forget the plug wires. there are many choices that are better than stock. I got Taylor thunder volt 8.2 mm. K&N does have a filter that is a stock replacement and fits in the stock location. It runs about $40 and you will never have to buy another. This as well improves performance (K&N claims a 6hp increase). You will find many here do use synthetic oil as I do. If you are going to spend the money be sure to get the better oil filter too. K&N and Mobil 1 both have oil filters designed specifically for use with synthetic oil in that they have a better ability to filter out smaller particulates which helps the oil last longer and do a better job of lubricating. In doing a search of this forum, you find many discussions and explanations concerning this very subject. Take your time, do the job right for many years of cruisin' fun. ---------- DC1 #1610--5-speed. Its got some stuff. '03 Inferno Red--Its getting some stuff too!

don't waste your money on an after market coil, the factory one works just fine... I changed to Bosch platinum plus 2 plugs and after market wires and the car runs smoother and better overall. I think any good spark plug and wire set will work alot better than the factor stuff... I usually use one of the semi-synthetic oils like Valvoline DuraBlend or Castrol Syntec blend... its better than regualr oil but not as expensive as a full synthetic... Also the filter for a turbo PT fits the regular engine and it is almost twice the length... I like the Purolator PureOne filters... ---------- Joel

So, what's wrong with the stock plugs and wires? My car has only 17K miles on it, but I'm not averse to changing the plugs and wires out if it'll net me a performance gain. I want to squeeze the maximum fuel economy possible out of this car.

I want to squeeze the maximum fuel economy possible out of this car. The stock plugs are ok, but the stock wires are cheap and suck. Changing plugs and wires will not help performance unless the old plugs and wires were bad. Good plugs and wires will only allow your car to run as well as it was designed. Just to put in my $.02 here. I am using Bosch motorsports spark plugs and Mopar High Performance wires (the ones found on the 426 Hemi crate engine). I noticed better MPG after 2 tankfuls and a smoother idle on the engine with a tad more power. I do not have big bucks for a cold air intake so I have the K&N drop-in filter. I also like K&N kits because I can find the recharging kits anywhere, even Wally World. Everyone here seems to like synthetic oil, but since I go 3 months or 3000 miles I figure that regular oil is good enough for me. ----------
