Vibration Can't Post

Hi All, I have an '05 GT Turbo Vert and from a few days after I bought it it has had a great deal of vibration when driving at highway speeds. I took it in to the dealer but they say they can't reproduce the vibration. I was then told that since it is a convertable that there have been many complaints about shimmy while driving and that Chrysler is aware of the problem but it can't be helped do to body integrity without the hard top. The service agent also told me many folks have tried to invoke the lemon kaw but were unsuccesfull. I am so disheartend because I love this car but I HATE driving it because it shakes off and on to the point I actually almost get sick. Does anyone else have a problem with their Vert? My dealer told me to take it to another dealer for a second opinion. Am I stuck with a lemon? It seems to do it more when maintaing speeds between 60 and 70 and not much at all while the cruise is on. I am at a loss for why that would be. I even thought the grade of gas might be the culprit but I have been using premium at all times. I am going to take it to Goodyear tommorrow to see if I can have them rule out rims and tires.Frown

I changed the tires on my 2005 conv.GT and improved the vibration.

Re: [Javaman] Vibration Can't Post

Bummer. It could be a balance problem with the tires. Mine had some shimmy due to it being a convertible, but nothing like you're discribing. I put the strut tower brace in which took most of it out. But you will always have a little bit. Also changed tires, those badyears were scary in the rain.

Re: [Topless in Cali] Vibration Can't Post

We haven't noticed that much shimmy in Wendy's vert in the 6500 miles that we've driven it. Her's was one of the early models with the aluminum intake built in 05/04. We've had is since May and the only thing that it's going back to the dealer for, besides it's first oil change, is the rearview mirror. The day night switch isn't working and every once in a while there is pixelation and weirdness in the mirror's readout. She actually just left to get the second oil change done and to get the mirror repaired.

What is this shimmy/vibration you guys are talking about? I've never felt anything like that or I don't think I have. What does it feel like?

Mine was in the windshield frame, but again that is where most verts' have it. It was greatly reduced by the strut tower brace.

Okay - my windows rattle a bit when the top is down and I have them up. I figured that was a "convertible" thing because they fit pretty tight when the top goes up. I haven't noticed the windshield frame vibrating though.

Re: [Javaman] Vibration Can't Post

Javaman, There should be no vibration at all. My 05 GT ragtop has over 20,000 miles on it and some of it was even offroad on less than dirt roads. I have changed to Michelin tires but really didn't have a problem of vibration or shimmy even with the badyears. My 01 had that problem and it was the tires compounded my a slightly bent rim from tagging a curb.

Don't let the dealer BS you, ragtops are not supposed to vibrate and shimmy.

Re: [Javaman] Vibration Can't Post

We've had our ragtop since June of 04. There is no vibration or shimmy unless we're on a rough road. Then it's the usual cowl shake as with any convertible. We've driven it in every kind of condition. It's rock solid.

I'd have the rims checked at this point. You should not be getting any vibration.

Re: [nehope] Vibration Can't Post

With Roadforce report in hand from my local Goodyear (Cost $125) I went to the dealer on Thursday and watched the circus act begin. The service agent stared at my report for a few minutes, diddled on the PC, looked at the report again and asked me what exactly did all this mean? I said the report states that two of the tires were bad and he began with the same old same old. "You know we can change the tires but I doubt if it will do any good" and "Chrysler knows thay have a problem as all of the verts are shaking, this is a real problem for us" and when asked why I was not informed at the time of sale his reply "well they wouldn't sell any of these cars now would they?". He proceeds to tell me " It's a combination of the wheel base, 17 inch tires and suspension not jiving with the PT's body weight". I told the guy I know what a vibration is and this is not a simple vibration as the whole car shakes. Sooo, they are going to call me for an appointment and propose to take tires of another cruiser and put them on mine. They want to see if there is any improvement. Something fishy here, why not just let goodyear replace the tires?? They admit they are bad??? I am in complete shock with the treatment I am recieving, I can't believe the dealer's employees are blatantly telling me they basically sold me a car that is defective and Chrysler knows it but will not admit it!!!! WTF!!????. Any advice guys and gals? Do I have any options with the dealer? It's a friggin vibration for God's sake, not like I am asking for them to rebuild the engine...geeez.

This problem you are having is maddening! So often the only people you hear from in forums are the people having problems. I want to state here that we have had our car for about 8 months and still love it.We have had no problems with it at all. We have no vibration or shimmy, our car runs quietly, and it sounds like you are getting really crappy treatment from your dealer. Take the letters from people like us who tell you that this "vibration" is not normal or acceptable, as not EVERY convertible has this problem, and certainly, most don't. Your dealer needs to be reported to DC. Go to the top, go above your dealer with this. Ridiculous!!!

Still love my joymobile!

Re: [lindwood] Vibration Can't Post

I totally agree with Linda. Mine has 12,000 on it and no vibrations. Mine wasn't even new when I got it, so I can't be sure how it was treated. But it still is vibration free. Your dealer needs to be reported. Especially the part about the selling of defective cars that they knew were defective. This is criminal.

Have any good lawyer friends?

Good luck and happy cruisin'.

Thanks for all the replies, unfortunately we are in the aftermath of Wilma here in South Florida so it looks like it will be weeks before I get this resolved. We have no power and fuel and it looks to be weeks before we do. I will keep you informed as time goes on.

Kirk, I used to live in Columbus. I see you are in Granville...GO BUCKS!

Re: [jouster] Vibration Can't Post

How did everything pan out Javaman? Just got my turbo lite convert...haven't had a chance to open her up on the highway with the top down yet...but it purrs around 50 topless. The dealers got me the car as a Chrysler demo and orginally told me it was a GT model. When it came it "with the TE badging" they still insisted it was a GT. Point is they will lie bold face like no other...they are truly all the same. It is an amazing thing!
Let us know how all transpired...hope all is well in FL...
