Well it did it again.- Engine dies and will not restart. Can't Post

Well my husband picked up our 2005 PT Cruiser convertible on Friday, after the dealership had it for 3 weeks trying to find the problem. After numerous test drives and swapping out the coil, wires and plugs they assured us that they had found the cause of the problem and solved it. WRONG!!!! We spent another lovely evening sitting in a parking lot, after coasting down off of freeway, waiting for a tow. That is now the 4th time in 4 months we have had to have this thing towed. I am no longer concerned with the cars gas mileage, at 149.00 a pop I am now more concerned with the cars tow mileage.
I am of the opinion that Chrysler doesn't teach or give their Technicians the knowledge or tools to fix there cars properly. If you cannot find a problem in a car in 3 weeks you are definitely lacking in something. Anyway I don't believe that the problem is going to be solved at the dealership level, they need to get an engineer over there to go through the electronic systems and find the root cause of the problem. Not just throw parts at it. Basically I love my little PT but there comes a time when enough is enough. At this point I never want to set foot in it again. It is unsafe, unreliable and undriveable even if it will start. You never know if you are going to get where you are going.

PT's are really reliable cars. Unfortunately yours is not and your problem is intermittent. Since you have had this problem 4 times I think you can invoke the lemon law and make them give you a new one. Have they replaced the PCM (computer) yet? What about the fuel pump, can you hear the buzz when you first turn on the ignition before you start the car? If the buzzing doesn't stop (this is after a failure to start) after a couple of seconds, you may have a fuel pump or pressure problem. Another problem I have heard about is the ignition KEY. There is a chip in the key that is sensed by the ignition switch (security, you can't start the car if you don't have the proper key), if it is not sensed ( in your case an intermittent sensing) by the ignition switch it will shut down the computer and stop the engine. Try using the other key for awhile. Just some thoughts, good luck!!

In response to your problem, I once had a Dodge Caravan that acted the same way, took it to my dealer and he replaced everything but the right thing. Turned out to be a magnetic pick-up in the coil. Hope this is not to late.
