Wiper Blades

If you do not mind me asking everyone... What kind of wiper blades are you people using that you are satisfied with? This is my 3rd set in 6 years. 2 years ago I bought the OEM wiper set and they only lasted 6 months. Last year I bought those new "revolutionary" one piece wipers and the pieces of junk only lasted 3 months, in fact they never worked right from the second rainstorm they went through. Those pieces of junk were not worth the $40 I spent on them! About 3 weeks ago I bought another set of different looking OEM wiper blades at the dealer for about $30 after my discount and they only lasted 1 snowfall and now I have to look into some new ones, in fact I am probably going to the dealer sometime soon and show them what their wipers are doing. The worst part is that when I went for the wipers, there was a huge pot hole covered with water and it was on a small drop off and to make a long story short, I damaged my stainless steel air dam. So, those wipers actually costed me about $70 total and they do not work. The prices of these wipers included all three wiper blades (fronts and back). I have had wipers for up to 8 years on another vehicle before they gave out. I would appreciate any help because I am tired of this. I may go to the store for some Rain-X before buying the cheapest new wipers I can find. ----------

I personally use this kind of "Flex" wipers and I'm happy with them.

I follow the advice of the best auto service tech I ever knew (he happens to be my brother)...... He says, "don't spend a lot on wipers, but change them every year". I've been satisfied with that approach for a number of years. ----------

I've had the same problem. I have to replace mine almost every year. I don't know if it's the humidity or what. ----------

This is an interesting thread. Most of you spend more than a good set of wiper blades cost when you change your oil, put on some of those fancy chrome parts, or do a performance upgrade. You seem to have no problems spending money on those parts yet you complain about spending money on wiper blades that if they don't work correctly could help cause you to wreck your pride and joy or even worse help you to cause bodily injury to someone else. If your having to replace them every few months then I'd think your not getting the best material or you have something else going on that is abnormal. ---------- New owner 2001 Limited Edition. Wiper blades are subject to UV light damage. If you keep the car garaged the blades last longer. If you drive on snow covered salty roads the life of the blades is shortned. I live in Florida where there is searing sun. Non garaged car wiper blades start to deteriorate in three months. I have used blades costing from $24 each to the Walmart Specials at $3.00. Wiper design hasn't changed much in sixth years. I change blades with the Walmart specials every three-four months. They perform very well during that period. At $3 each they will give better performance by changing them every three months than changing a $10 blade every six months. ----------

In the old days (50's and 60's) you replaced them in the Spring and Fall. Wiper blades need to be replaced every year. It's that simple...... ---------- Jack Smith (Smittys PT) Webmaster Colorado Cruiser Club

They lasted longer in the old days because they were made from natural rubber, and the windshields were flat. Talk about old; I OvHald my first engine in 1948. ----------
