XM Radio Can't Post

My wife is wanting a XM Radio for her 2005 Convertible. What I am wanting to know has anyone installed one in a convertible? Where would be a good place to mount the antenna and what XM would be the way to go with? The convertible has the in dash 6 CD AM/FM. Thank you Jerry

Re: [ajtug] XM Radio Can't Post

I have actually gone with the Roady combo that I was able to find discounted on the web for $49.00 with 3 months prepaid. The only place I could find to mount the antenna was right on the front hood evenly spaced between the windshield washers.

I was able to routed the wire under the hood and down along the door frame for now. Have only had the convertible for 3 weeks and didn't want to try to penetrate the firewall yet!

I haven't permanently mounted the unit itself yet. Just have it laying in the cup holder waiting to decide best place to mount.

If you have the automatic trans, there is a rubber plug through the firwall where the hydraulic clutch rod would run through on the standard trans units..... This works great for a whole to run things through. As far as where to mount the antenna, I can't help.... Get in touch with KC.... he's got a XM in his vert....

Forgive my ignorance, what is an XM Radio? I have a 2005 rag top and would like to install a satellite radio. I have a navigation system that came with the car.

XM Radio http://www.xmradio.com/index.jsp is one of the company that you can subscribe to. XM and SIRIUS are two of the satellite radio company.

yo renegadeptSmile

i have XM in my convertible.Cool it's built in to a regular alpine radio. the installer put the antenna between the windshield washers ... almost to the edge of the hood. i got the touch-up paint for my car color and painted it with many coats, put three coats of clear fingernail polish on it and then had my pinstriper put a small design on it like the rest of the car has. it is almost invisible!!
i had a professional installer do the work. he had never done one on the ragtop, but after said it was easy. he had found an opening to use. i won't go anywhere without my XM. i have the regular XM radio in the convert. and a MyFi for the other times and vehicles. the roady2 is an excellent choice, too.

good luck and enjoy the tunes.

oh, stay away from sirius. sounds like they might become part of XM in the future.

I had XM added to my stock radio, the 6 cd changer one. I put the antena on the strip just above the windshield. It works well, not perfect, but well. I hung the receiver part from one of the AC vents like you would a cell phone.

Re: [Capt Kidd] XM Radio Can't Post

We have XM as part of our Pioneer AVIC-N2 head unit. The installer put the antenna on the dashboard near the center, next to the windshield on a small square piece of magnetic material. Looks fine and didn't need to mount it outside the car. Works pretty well in this position.
