a lead sled? Can't Post

I have a chance to buy a 2005 base convert 5 spd for 11900. It ha 21k on the engine. It has a coffee can muffler, some type of air intake and possibly a shift kit as it shifted short and smooth like no Chrysler 5 spd I've ever driven. The thing of it is although it is a very nice riding car, it seems rather lethargic to me. Handling is so-so. Are these cars this relaxed or is this a bum one. Engine seemed fine ,sounded smooth it puts real meaning into the word "cruiser". Short of putting in a turbo, anything else to be done to put a little snap in this combo or should I just wait for a turbo to come around. Wife likes it because she says she'll never get ticketed with this car as its kind of languid in its demeanor.

There is no name I can pick up on the air intake. It sems to be just a cone filter using the stock intake tube. The previous owner removed the top of the air box to fit the cone. I am wondering if the heated engine bay is contibuting to the sluggishness of the car. It was slow right from the start even before the engine warmed up, however the car was sitting in the sun.

As Einstein would say "it's all relative." Speed and quickness too are relative... Wink

For some, that same car you are considering buying is plenty fast. For you on the other hand, it seems to leave something to be desired.

So I'd say be honest with yourself (or if it's going to be your wife's car she needs to do the same) and answer how far off the acceptable mark is the performance. If it's not even close, wait for a good deal on a factory turbo. If it's almost there, little mods here or there can make it a little better, but don't expect miracles.

Wait and get a turbo, I test drove two bse engine PT's and was really turned off by the lack of pick-up. My 1.3 Hyundai flew off the line compared to those cars. Once I for the turbo under foot I was in heaven...a big difference. But the car is still a soft driver, I have a touring edt. One time I tried really pushing the car hard ( I owned several 240z's in college and the harder you pushed them the tighter and more nimble they felt) not here. The car is a "cruiser" and pushing it will only give you the YIPS@!
