add another one to the dead radiator fan club Can't Post

02 with 87k.

overheated friday. took by the local stealer that was 2 blocks away. they diagnosed bad relays and sent me on my way with an 80.00 bill. happened again sunday. yesterday i replaced the whole fan assembley to the tune of 199.00. Mad runs just fine now and the engine doesn't bog down when the fan starts. <i should have known that wasn't a relay problem.>

if anyone else has this problem you might want to know that the fan motors that autozone carries DO NOT fit the 02 model no matter what the monkey behind the counter says. i ended up having to buy the entire fan assembly.

What a coincidence...I'm having overheating problems...they get worse when the ac is on, or so it would seem. Replaced the thermostat, didn't work...taking it to the local "cooling experts" next week. I'll have them check the fan assembly thingamabob. ;)

Other coincidence-the rear brake pads that Autozone sells for PT's aren't the correct ones. I emailed their contact us and got nothing back. Since Autozone only sells one style brake pad for the PT and it doesn't even fit the PT, go somewhere else for that too.

if you are sitting at idle with a cool engine and turn on the ac the radiator fan should start. mine was random at first then became almost impossible to start the fan.

the manual says jump the fan to the battery, if it spins it's good. that was not true for me. jumped fan would spin. shop replaced the relays due to this and it worked for a day or 2. i should have known better becuase the lights in the dash would dim a bit when the fan tried to kick on <thats a good sign the relays clicked> it was just taking too much current to kick the fan over.

if the radiator is getting hot it's likely not the waterpump/thermostat.

does the ac work when the car is stopped? if not, look into a new fan. just be ready to take it in the shorts on the price.

for the record the fan is easy to replace. 4 screws for the grill, 4 bolts for the top brace and one for the center. disconnect top hose and gently pull radiator up and forward until you have enough room. <watch the ac lines on the left side> bottom 2 screw on the fan cage are easy to get from underneath without a jack.

be real careful about running that engine hot, a warped head on this thing can't be cheap to fix.

That just happened to my 05 touring. The car would almost stall at idle with AC on and the AC was blowing warm untill I picked up some speed. It has a 2 speed fan and the low speed (Comes on with AC) was bad. After replacing it AC now works fine. It did cost me $225 (List price is $300) from the dealer, not yet available through aftermarket.

I've replaced a dozen of the fan assemblies.
I have not sourced a single fan from the dealer.
They are available from NAPA, Oreilly's, and Heatex.
Only fans for '06 & newer are not the same.

my question is why isn't the motor by itself available instead of having to buy the complet fan and shroud.

NAPA was the first place I tried, and was told no listing. Do you have a NAPA part # so I can rip them a new one?
