IF you want mpg, stick with the neon.Or get a Chevy Impala with the 3.5 V6. That car will run circles around the PT and get better MPG. ---------- big jim

Everyone here is going to say that the PT is a great car, and I agree with them. The only problem with the PT is gas mileage, mine usually gets 18-23 city and 25-34 highway and this is with an auto transmission, so stick will do better. I would have to say that PT's are very reliable, there are some people on this forum that have over 200,000 trouble free miles on the clock. Of course there will be some PT's that will not be as good, but all vehicles are like that. The only mechanical problems I know of are transmission problems on 2001-2003 automatic transmission. There are really no years to avoid. The only thing to know is that the newer you get in PT model years, the less options you will get, but if you want horse power, then go with a newer model turbo. The 2006 GT made 230hp while the 2005 GT made 220hp, and the 2003 GT made 215. Now about the V6 Chevy Impala. I have seen numerous complaints that GM V6 engines (3.1L, 3.6L, etc.) have problems with intake and head gasket failure as early as 30,000 miles, and can cost upward of $400 to fix. People also claim that GM turns a deaf ear on the complaints of this situation. The worst part is that the new gaskets can fail again because the Dex-Cool antifreeze is too acidic and eats the plastic gaskets. Good Luck ----------

A friend of mine is a chevy man all the way. He has a Grand Prix with that V6. He was telling me about that headgasket problem while he was dealing with the cooling problem. He said GM wasn't going to touch the headgaskets. I'm sketchy on the details though. PT cruiser? Now there's a car. I've had an '05 and now have an '03 and '02. All good. Try to find one with low miles and enjoy. ---------- DC1 #1610--5-speed. Its got some stuff. '03 Inferno Red--Its getting some stuff too!

Hello and welcome to the PTCC.The PT Cruiser is an extremely reliable car as documented by Consumer Reports here in Yonkers New York and by the track record of reliable service for a multitude of owners, myself and my wife included. It is well documented that the PT does not get the greatest gas mileage,I average 23-25 MPG in the city and 28-32 MPG Highway with a 2001 Limited Edition with Automatic Transmission, but you must also note that the PT is not very aerodynamic and has a GVW of over 3000 LBS.You can seat 4 adults comfortably and haul just about anything within reason and look damn good doing it.There are really no model years to avoid but I think that the pre 06 redesign is the way to go.After 06 the interior became totally squared out ,the head and taillights were redesigned, and the lower grille design became a fond memory.Look for a model that you like with low mileage and enjoy the cruise.God Bless......Mike ---------- Mike Casabianca His: 2001 Black LE with Auto Transmission, BullDog Signs Flames, WeatherTec wind deflectors, cargo area mat, PT trash can, PT valve stem caps and Dart's coldair intake, chrome tail and headlight bezels, chrome bumper inserts, chrome license plate pillow, chrome fender trim, 1940's retro chrome on front and back fenders, door spears, chrome hatch door trim, chrome gas door, brushed chrome door sills, billet door pins, custom "BlueHaze" dash mat, MRK Group lugnut covers, dome light trim, etc. and the chrome goes on...... Hers: 2003 Patriot Blue Woody with Automatic Transmission, Bulldog Signs Eeyore, Cargo area mat, WeatherTec wind deflectors, PT valve stem caps, PT trash can, "BlueHaze" custom dash mat, and chrome tailpipe extension, "Old School" wood shifter knob, wood and chrome door pins, MRK Group interior knob and switch covers, door surrounds, and dome light trim, chrome door surround trim, white eeyore window decals, smoothie hub cap, wood eeyore plaques ....and the Wood goes on http://community.webshots.com/user/mdcvmvc

As always, I would like to point out that the 06 redesign is a love it/hate it kinda thing. I for one love it . It's the reason I bought my PTC. So I would take a look at each design and decide for yourself which you like better. Either way, you can't go wrong with a PT Cruiser of any year! The best part of the PT Cruiser is the friends you'll make just by owning one. I have owned several different cars (including a 97 Pontiac Firebird) and have been a member of all of their respective forums. I haven't found a better community of car enthusiasts. As the car itself goes: Like everyone said, it's not so great on the gas, but you won't find a car better at moving people and stuff. Not to mention all the mods you can do to it. Ultra modern or ultra retro, either way the car looks great. PS, for a look at the 06, you can see my thread below and my sig: http://www.ptcruiserclub.org/...f_shoes!_P220795.htm Good luck with your search for a new ride, Ray ----------
