Nope...Not bad... Pretty close to average. My '05 get a consistant 25.5-26.5 MPG. Of course the higher end is when I keep my foot out of 'it'. Anad, that's hard to do w/ an N.A. My '06 went from Kansas City to Atlanta and back last summer. I ran around 70-75 most of the way, and averaged out at 28 mpg. Granted it dropped a lot going up the mountains, but upped the same coming down. :) I've heard that auto vs. manual trans still makes some difference, and mine is a 5 speed manual. Now, I know for a fact that cruise control can give a boost to mpg, but I unfortunately do not have that. I also made the trip during the night hours, so cooler air may have helped? Driving around town here in KC I probably run around 23-24 though...more lights, and I drive a bit hard. ----------

I have gotten as much as 34 mpg on the hwy--that's straight disciplined two-way highway, cruise control, no AC, 65 mph--miles. In the city, I suffer with about 21 mpg because I like fast starts . I usually get about 25 with a combination. ---------- DC1 #1610--5-speed. Its got some stuff. '03 Inferno Red--Its getting some stuff too!

I've had my '07 PT Limited (2.4L NA w/auto) for about a week, and I'm averaging about 24MPG with a more-or-less even mixture of city, highway and mountain driving. I just ordered the fabled K&N drop-in air filter and I'm hoping that can net me a at least a couple more MPG. In my part of New York, 87 oct. gas is going for almost $3.30 now and it's probably gonna go up some more before it starts to go down!

We just returned from a trip to Florida from CT, mostly highway driving but some secondary roads and good hills in central PA. As the car has only about 2000 miles, I was very pleased to be averaging in the high 20s for mileage, and by the time we got home the mileage indicator said 30.2 mpg. That's about what I hoped for. ---------- 2008 PT Cruiser Conv 5-sp

In August, I made a trip to San Diego, CA from my home here in San Angelo, TX. It was all freeway driving, cruise set at 75 mph, the A/C running the entire time & the round trip mileage was 2563. This was 95% freeway & 5% city running to the store etc. Once I completed all the math with fuel purchased vs mileage, I actually got 30.4 mpg on my 2005 Touring Edition w/auto trans. I couldn't believe that! I am completely satisfied with my PT. ---------- "Just Cruisin' Lite."

A couple of tanks later, here's a followup: after the first tank, my MPG dropped from 24 to 22 (same commute, same gas, same driving conditions). I installed the K&N drop-in air filter about half a tank ago with no change in fuel economy so far, although I DID notice an improvement in acceleration, especially in the low gears. If I could just achieve an average of 25MPG or better, I'd be a happy man. The MPG readout on the trip computer is corresponding pretty well to what I'm measuring at fill-ups

Still, since about half my commute is highway (route 87, the Thruway), I feel I should be averaging better than 22MPG. I still don't understand why my MPG went down after that first tankful. It came back up again temporarily (for the duration of one trip) after installing the K&N, but then went down again. It's almost like the engine computer is fighting me. Another unexpected thing is that on the highway, I seem to get better fuel economy by not using the cruise control. It really guns the throttle when accelerating. EDIT: Sorry, Mike, I thought you were replying to me.

My outlaws have an 06' Limited Edition & George keeps complaining that his PT is only getting 14 - 16 mpg? It's an auto trans & he even though he drives like a total maniac, I have told him there is a serious problem & he needs to make the dealer do something about it. The PT has less than 8K miles on it because they don't run a lot. I can't imagine that has anything to do with it? He tells me the dealer claims there is nothing they can do about as not all Cruisers get the same mpg. I insisted he contact DC. ---------- "Just Cruisin' Lite."

Hi Dave. You might want to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then reapply the battery to reset the PT's computer. This may help with the MPG after changing the air filter to a K-N.All the best and God Bless.....Mike ---------- Mike Casabianca His: 2001 Black LE with Auto Transmission, BullDog Signs Flames, WeatherTec wind deflectors, cargo area mat, PT trash can, PT valve stem caps and Dart's coldair intake, chrome tail and headlight bezels, chrome bumper inserts, chrome license plate pillow, chrome fender trim, 1940's retro chrome on front and back fenders, door spears, chrome hatch door trim, chrome gas door, brushed chrome door sills, billet door pins, custom "BlueHaze" dash mat, MRK Group lugnut covers, dome light trim, etc. and the chrome goes on...... I'm skeptical--I mean, isn't the PCM always learning and adjusting? But I s'pose it shouldn't hurt. I disconnected the battery for 15 mins. during my lunch break today; we'll see if there's any improvement on the drive home. By the way, I actually managed to hit 25MPG on the Thruway yesterday, by crawling along at 55 MPH while everyone else whizzed past me. It was an interesting experiment but I'd rather not repeat it.

After the rain stops maybe I'll disconnect my Battery for a while. It sure can't hurt it any. After a fill up when the needle gets down to the 3/4 mark I'm usually sitting at 80 miles and at 1/2 a tank, it's usually at 120 miles or so. That's local driving ,but not city driving. With stock 16 inch tires, automatic. ---------- big jim

What I can't understand is why when I'm pulling our fiberglass trailer my mileage goes up on a trip. I have gotten 34 MPG. It's not that bad locally either I did put 17 in wheel on it and it does have The air force one intake. My mileage really went up just after having a new set of disc brakes put on the front. I thing the original ones were tight. .I Had new brakes and rotors put the front on the 06 ,But nothing changed. ---------- big jim

Early results: I think I may have gotten 25MPG from my last half tankful. I'm not certain because I accidentally reset my trip odometer before I was ready and had to go by memory: 58 miles before I reset the PCM, 136.5 more miles (if I remembered correctly) before the accidental odometer reset, then an additional 12.1 miles at the time of fill up = 206.6 miles/8.23 gallons = 25.1MPG. So the jury's still out on any improvement in fuel economy, but I'll let you know after my next fill up. I did, however, notice much crisper acceleration and shifting after resetting the PCM. So in my case, anyway, it did have a tangible effect. EDIT: I just ran the numbers again using the mileage to/from my job and the number of trips I made since the last fill up, and it all jibes with what I wrote above. So I guess I did indeed achieve 25MPG on that last half-tank.

I have found, after resetting the PCM it might take a couple of days for it figure things out. During this time gas mileage sucked, idle would waver from 500 to about 1200 rpm and go from rough to smooth. Sounds like its coming together for you. ---------- DC1 #1610--5-speed. Only got 21 MPG on my last tankful... That may have been partially my fault since I was punching the accelerator a bit more in response to the improved acceleration and shifting I was getting since the PCM reset. I can't think of much else to do at this point to improve the fuel economy, outside of removing the rear seats and driving really slow most of the time

Definately change your plugs and wires!!

Man, it's been a while since I last posted! My 06 Classic Auto was getting 21MPG on the highway. Just yesterday I changed the plugs and wires. I went with Boshe Platinum +4 (or is it 4+?) and Duralast double insulated wires. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! The original plugs were horribly gapped. I didn't check them with a gapper, but it had to be more than .60. The new plugs are permanently gapped (I don't know if I like that idea). However, the car is MUCH more responsive on the peddle and goes up hills without straining nearly as much. I haven't filled up yet, so I don't know if the MPG has improved, but the needle doesn't seem to be going down as fast. Normally, my 25+ mile drive to school and back would take more than an eighth of a tank. Today, it hardly budged! I'm happy. -Ray ----------
