 I would tend to agree that the 7000 dollar price is a bit high on the surface.First check to see what the Kelly Blue Book value is for the car and if that price is high use the information to negotiate a lower purchase price.Factors that may account for the higher asking price may be pristine condition and aftermarket modifications.Good luck with your new cruiser and Merry Christmas.........Mike

I'd agree that $7200 for an '01 with 88K on it is too much. You may not be able to negotiate that price down to 5K, but if you're not in a hurry and are willing to wait for the right deal, you should be able to get one from a private seller in your area for around what you were thinking.
Our '01 has around 98K on it and aside from the aforementioned control arm bushings, no problems. I plan to change the timing belt and water pump in Spring.
Good luck with the purchase.
PS: Oh yeah, I forgot about the peeling and air leaking issues of the chrome wheels mentioned in the post below. They were replaced with the wheels in my signature.

I replace the wheels with Voxx Monza 16X7 weels. They have black spokes with a stainless steel hub and rim. I think it gives a more low keyed look.

i don't remember if they were chrome wheels - just alloys - by the way the car is complete stock - no mods...
also - the kbb value is $4,500-5k - for "mint" lol
so come tomorrow hopefully finally can find out for sure - unless weather is bad - grrr

No it's not. The Pt is 5 inches shorter just to start off with. You have to remember that it's Made by Chrysler Some parts may be simuliar but there not the same. Most people who say that the PT is like a neon near had a PT. Now I never had a neon So I only read what Chrysler says and they should know. The neon has been around for a liong time. First it was made by Plymouth then by Dodge. It had a good life , better then the junk that replaced it. If Chrysler really wasn't to improve the PT's engine performance maybe they should take that old v6 from the Neon and put it in the pT.

lol - yes indeed the pt was based off the neon - the only difference was the unibody frame and different shell, the drivetrain/tranny, and other mechanicals - were off the neon - please all you who do not believe me - do your research and see for yourself...

I'm a new Cruiser owner as well as being new here. What I don't understand is what is so important about whether it is or isn't? I brought mine because I like the look. It reminds me of old station wagons from the 40's.

i'm just trying to keep this on-topic and don't want arguments - i can agree to disagree - :)
just don't understand why if someone wants to disagree with me - that's great - pm me about it - put it in another thread - people like that i'm not too fond of especially in forums like this makes me want to unjoin... - but people like you make all the difference and am happy to know that on here - makes the site worthwhile...
i've said a few times in this thread that it doesn't matter to me that the pt is based on the neon - just stated a fact - that's all - if there is disagreement that's great - but don't like to see people turn this original thread of advice for a pre-buyer into some flame thread... - hence my calling him a goober :)

If you really want to buy a PT , go on to Ebay, look up the prices they have for PT's. I wouldn't buy one from them but at least you can get an Idea what you can look for in pricing. And some of them are fixed up pretty good. .Don't just pick the 01 models ,some of the newer model prices will surprise you. I have an 01 early edition with 38,000 miles and an 06 convertible with 16,000 miles on it. both were bought brand new.

hopefully tomorrow will work out at the dealer - will definately take all this learned info with me and see what happens :)
then if all fails - will check out ebay and other spots... wow already 1 week left for Christmas! :)
