Hello and welcome to cruising and the PTCC from Mike and Ginny Casabianca of Yonkers New York.I have a 2001 Limited Edition That I bought in 2002 and Gin has a 2003 Patriot Blue Touring Edition Woody she bought new.The 2001 Limited had the Best of the best options available, before Chrysler started to cheap out with each succeding year.It has the heated and folding mirrors, dual tone horn, full Suede and Leather seats, and if ordered as available options at the time,Traction Control,ABS, 4 wheel disc brakes, and heated driver and passenger seats. The PT is extremly reliable mechanically, and the two things I would sugggest doing immeadiately is to switch to 5w-30 full synthetic oil and to install a cold air intake system. The air filtration system was made quite small in the 2001 and the intake will definately improve gas pedal response.I also saw improvement in gas mileage and smoother engine operation after switching to full synthetic oil.Like any car if you keep up with the matainance it will give you many years of relatively trouble free driving. The reason why you were denied access into the technical forums is because you are not a full member of PTCC Certain forums and chat are restricted to use by full members.Oh stay tuned for infection by the "Mod Bug".Once it strikes it is terminal and you will spend large amounts of $$ making it your own.Peace Out and God Bless.....................Mike ---------- Mike Casabianca His: 2001 Black LE with Auto Transmission, BullDog Signs Flames, WeatherTec wind deflectors, cargo area mat, PT trash can, PT valve stem caps and Dart's coldair intake, chrome tail and headlight bezels, chrome bumper inserts, chrome license plate pillow, chrome fender trim, 1940's retro chrome on front and back fenders, door spears, chrome hatch door trim, chrome gas door, brushed chrome door sills, billet door pins, custom "BlueHaze" dash mat, MRK Group lugnut covers, dome light trim, etc. and the chrome goes on...... Hers: 2003 Patriot Blue Woody with Automatic Transmission, Bulldog Signs Eeyore, Cargo area mat, WeatherTec wind deflectors, PT valve stem caps, PT trash can, "BlueHaze" custom dash mat, and chrome tailpipe extension, "Old School" wood shifter knob, wood and chrome door pins, MRK Group interior knob and switch covers, door surrounds, and dome light trim, chrome door surround trim, white eeyore window decals, smoothie hub cap, wood eeyore plaques ....and the Wood goes on http://community.webshots.com/user/mdcvmvc

Welcome to the club... so whaddaya ride MotorcycleBoy? The '01 LE is an excellent choice and as mike as mentioned came with a lot of options that were later dropped and now are coveted by those in the know. These are all what Mike has so nicely listed for you. Our '01 LE has about 98K miles on it and so far no major issues with engine or drivetrain. What's the mileage on the one you're looking at? You may want to check if the timing belt has been replaced on it. A timing belt job on the PT is more expensive than average (could run close to $1K), and should be done by 100K miles. As you have mentioned the PT was built on the Neon platform. Good news is that Neon's suspension was one of its better assets and gave it pretty good handling. Likewise, I've been happy with the handling of the PT - as long as you remember it's a wagon and you don't expect it to handle like a Mini. The bad news is that, the PT suspension is plagued with the same design flaws as the Neon, namely the weak and failure-prone control arm bushings. The rear pushing on the front control arms particularly wears out regularly and gets torn. When bad, the car makes a clanking noise when you hit sharp little bumps. I think in one of the threads on this forum someone had posted nice pictures of damaged ones, which are visible when the car is jacked up. In any case, if the car you are looking at has bad control arm bushings, leverage it to have them lower the price a bit, but make sure when you go to fix it, you use Energy Suspension poly bushings. If you fix them with the OEM ones they'll go bad again within a year or two just after their warranty expires. Good luck with the purchase and welcome again.

The PT has nothing to do with the neon. You can check that misconception within the archives of this site. If the PT you are looking at has been halfway maintained at all...you should enjoy the ride. So then in 1969 a Camero,Chevelle,Nova and Impala were all bascially the same car they just had different bodies and frames but shared engines.. . A Roadrunner,Cuda,Challenger,GTX and Charger were the same too.. OK I get you are right The PT is a Neon. Since the Neon came 1st.. And since the SRT 10 Ram PU has a Viper engine, I assume it is bascially a Viper also. ---------- AUCRZR on Horsepower TV Show http://webpages.charter.net/tigertown/hptv.3g2

funny - but yes - you are correct... just as the cougar and sable and contour share the same engine... just different bodies... also - just as vw's and porsche's use the same engines... so - yes :) oh and - mercedes makes the engines for the euro-pt's since 2006.... we are still stuck with the mexican engines... hehe ---------- []D [] []\/[] []D http://www.motorcycleboy.org --------------------------------- 2000 Mercury Cougar 2.5L V6 MTX5 1990 Honda CRX DX 1.5L I4 MTX5 1997 Dodge Caravan 3.3L V6 ATX4 (work) :) 1986 Suzuki GS450L 6-Speed Cruiser 1986 Kawasaki ZX600R Ninja 6-Speed Sport 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser LE 2.4L I4 ATX4 (pending) :)

What? You call it a Neon because it has the same engine? Many of Chrysler's and Dodge's other vehicles including their minivans and even several models of the Jeep use the 2.4L engine and the 41TE transmission. Up to 2001 the Neon had different engines and transmissions, so I guess you could say the Neon is a PT. ----------

I just recent, on 11/08, purchased a 2001 Limited. I'm going to modify it a little bit but don't see myself adding all of the chrome to the outside, or even the interior, that it seems most of you do. So far I've replaced the wheels with Voxx Monza 16X7's and Pirelli P3000 tires. I will, possibly this weekend, change out the backup lights with the Tyco units. Additional plans are to add the K&N air intake and filter, maybe something with the exhaust system at some point. I do need a new hood as mine has some minor dents at the nose where it looks like someone press to hard trying to get the hood closed. I'm leaning towards the Keystone Functional Ram-Air Hood as I like the subtle look of the single scoop. I've thought about painting the grille black, don't want a chrome one. Mine is the Shale Green and I think a black grille might look sharp. I don't think I want to lower it as it seems to be plenty low for me already. Maybe change over the K&N struts and shocks at some point. My desires are to make it handle and perform better, and not so much to look better. ---------- New owner 2001 Limited Edition. Shale Green Metallic. Factory stock except Voxx 16X7 wheels, Pirelli P3000 P205/55R16 tires, Tyco backup lights, 2006 tailight lenses, shorty antenna.

Hi MB and welcome. Just to let you know, my PT is an (01) that I bought with 2,800 miles on it. It was built in April 2000 and now has almost 121,000 miles on it. Changed the timing belt and water pump at 115,000 for maint. Other than brakes, tires and standard care, it's been a great friendship. ---------- If it's gonna happen - it's gonna happen out there.

awesome to hear :) i've been hearing mixed things on it - but so far i'd say 9 out of 10 have been positive :) now about pricing... the one i'm looking at has 88k miles - spotless inside and out - but sticker price is $7200 - i think it's way pricey... i figured maybe in the $5k range? haven't been able to talk numbers this week due to weather and late work.... so come monday will find out for sure :) ---------- []D [] []\/[] []D http://www.motorcycleboy.org --------------------------------- 2000 Mercury Cougar 2.5L V6 MTX5 1990 Honda CRX DX 1.5L I4 MTX5 1997 Dodge Caravan 3.3L V6 ATX4 (work) :) 1986 Suzuki GS450L 6-Speed Cruiser 1986 Kawasaki ZX600R Ninja 6-Speed Sport 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser LE 2.4L I4 ATX4 (pending) :)

Back when I got mine, there was an 8 month wait for a new one and they wanted $24,000 for mine. I managed to get them down to $21,000. Still pretty high for a used Limited, but I'm glad I bought it. ---------- If it's gonna happen - it's gonna happen out there.
