overheated - need service?

My wife's '05 turbo PT with only 13k miles chimed and the guage read hot so she parked it and called me. I checked the reservoir and saw it was down to the add line. Topped it off (only took about a pint) and drove it home - about 3 miles. Next day, I checked the coolant level and it was fine so I test drove it for about 20 miles at different speeds. Guage stayed in normal range and car ran fine. Do I need to have the car checked? Pressure checked? Search for leaks (didn't see any puddles)? Or just drive it and keep an eye on the coolant level? I've never had to top off a modern car's coolant level before ... is this common for PTs? Thanks for any expertise! ----------

Thermostat probably stuck, good idea to replace it. You don't want the engine to overheat. Over heating an Aluminum engine is NOT good. ----------

All the info given is correct. However, keep in mind that a full reservior does not indicate the cooling system is full. If there is a void (air pocket) in your cooling system the reserviour coolant will not flow back to the radiator. When the engine/radiator cool there is a negative pressure created. This pressure will suck the reserviour coolant bact to the full piont in the radiator. Make sure engine is cool. Once this line is broken the recovery system will not function. Remove the radiator cap to make sure the radiator is full. Add coolant while the engine is running. Replace cap and check level again. This procedure may take quite a few times to absolutely fill the radiator. Some cars have bleeder valves located at the high point in the cooling system. They are handy for filling a radiator. I don't think Chrysler was considerate enouge to have one. Then again, it is only a convience. If this all checks out, go to the other recommendation. ----------
