ready to purchase a used cruiser convertible

Hi: This is my first post. I am looking to buy a Cruiser convertible and have found many '05s for around US$10k-15k range. I have never owned a Chrysler product before and have always heard that they are somewhat unreliable. Hoping it is not true with the convertible. So here are my questions. If my memory served me correctly (I am hitting my double nickel in age :)), Chrysler allowed everyone to buy its '05 cars under the employee discount program. This in turn means the used '05s should go somewhat cheaper than '04s or at least on par with the '04s? KBB and Edmunds don't seem to take into account this 'employee discount' in the used price. Should I push this fact during price negotiation? The biggest concern is what should I be looking out for? Thanks a bunch! ----------

I didn't get to buy my 05 under the employee discount program. It was never even mentioned. ----------

The Employee pricing deal was like any other rebate kind of deal, it amounted to a couple thousand off the price of the car. I doubt if it would effect resale value. As for getting a used 05 for 10 to 15K, I doubt if that would be much of a problem. ---------- 2005 Bright Silver Convertible, 5 speed with 8 ball knob, chrome door spears, chrome gas cap door, chrome antenna bezel, chrome grill kit, chrome rear bumper pillows, chrome bumper trim, stainless antenna with flames, stainless door panel trim, chrome smoothies with baby moons, 2" wide "gangster" white walls, chrome tail light trim, K&N air filter element in a modified airbox and an oogah horn. Hmmm, what have I forgotten???

When I bought our 06 Convertible a friend of mine gave me his family Discount from Chrysler. The list price of our car was $23,600. With my friends Discount We paid $18,200. This discount is not transferable. I get 25% off on parts and service. for as long as we own the PT .No one else gets it if I sell it. IF I decide to trade it off the Book price is what they go by. not my discount. I understand that some people are getting the Chrysler magazine in the mail and it has a $750 rebate in it. I haven't gotten mine yet. The discount is only good on new cars or trucks and this year Chrysler has cancelled the family offer. ---------- big jim

Yes the discount on all Chrysler except for the hi-end models for model year 2005 was hefty. It is mirrored its "employee discount." I remembered lots of my neighbors were buying the cars which they wouldn't have done otherwise. GM later did the same and my next door neighbor bought an Avanlanche dirt cheap. This is the reason why I say used '05s should be relatively cheaper than they are supposed to be. Could this be the reason why there are only '05s on the used market?? ----------

Again, I wouldn't consider the discount "hefty." It was enough for me to choose to buy the PT Cruiser convertible over the Mustang convertible (among a few other reasons), but all it amounted to was a couple thousand dollars. The base price for a non-loaded PT convertible (which is what I bought) was about 17K with the discount. To be exact, I paid $17,656. This is with $449 worth of dealer installed options. I just did a price check on a similarly equipped 08 PT Cruiser convertible on Chryslers' web site and it amounted to about 19K. They have an incentive of $1K going on right now that brings the price down to 18K. The reason there are probably more 05's on the market is because they are older and people are wanting to trade in for newer cars. Also, if they "bought" them on 3 year leases, they'd be running out right now. ---------- 2005 Bright Silver Convertible, 5 speed with 8 ball knob, chrome door spears, chrome gas cap door, chrome antenna bezel, chrome grill kit, chrome rear bumper pillows, chrome bumper trim, stainless antenna with flames, stainless door panel trim, chrome smoothies with baby moons, 2" wide "gangster" white walls, chrome tail light trim, K&N air filter element in a modified airbox and an oogah horn.
