????rocker arm noise at idle????

Here's one for you guys. When i start up my Pt in the AM one or Two of my rocker arms just clack away until the motor gets to temp or i step on the gas. I have Mobil-1 5-40 ESP in the pan now. Is it too thick and that is why the lifters in the rocker arms are losing pressure over night? should I go back to 5-30? I used the 5-40 for hot summer temps and 5-30 the rest of the year. Any one else heard there rocker arms lately? Could it be a Rod with too much clearance moving back and forth? I haven't worried about it since mine still has the Factory 7-70 powertrain and Extented coverage. to be honest i am hoping it takes out the whole motor so i can a new one. Is that Bad? ---------- 04 "SRT-4" PT Cruiser w/ AutoStick (in Sea Mist Green, 1 of 146) Stage 1, Mopar BOV, MagnaFlow 2 1/2 cat back exhaust, MSD black 8.5mm wires, Stock Champion Plugs gapped at .035, S&B Cold air intake, H&R sport springs, Progress 27mm front sway bar, Energy Suspension motor mount inserts, 06' tail lights, 06' Hood emblem, T-handle on rear glass, SRT-4 badges, factory chrome accent group, chrome door cups, 8" Mopar sub, ClearBra. 205/50ZR17 Sumitomo HTRIII tires

Your oil should be fine, the 5 is the cold startup viscosity equivalent , the 30 or 40 is the hot warmed up viscosity equivalent, I take it that you are using a good quality oil filter that has a anti drain back check valve and not a cheap no name $1.99 oil filter? I have heard on either this or another forum that there was a lifter noise problem (maybe a TSB), but i cant be sure of the year PT, check with your dealer , also maybe some one else has heard of this problem. ---------- '05 GT Dream Cruiser Series 4. took her in the Dealer this afternoon. we are going on a road trip on sept 1 so i don't want any issues popping up. Am i right in the fact the 2.4 has a rocker arm set up inside to open the valves on these motors right? Yes it is DOHC but i could swear that these motors still use rocker arms. ---------- 04 "SRT-4" PT Cruiser w/ AutoStick (in Sea Mist Green, 1 of 146) Stage 1, Mopar BOV, MagnaFlow 2 1/2 cat back exhaust, MSD black 8.5mm wires, Stock Champion Plugs gapped at .035, S&B Cold air intake, H&R sport springs, Progress 27mm front sway bar, Energy Suspension motor mount inserts, 06' tail lights, 06' Hood emblem, T-handle on rear glass, SRT-4 badges, factory chrome accent group, chrome door cups, 8" Mopar sub, ClearBra. 205/50ZR17 Sumitomo HTRIII tires

You are quite correct on the DOHC motors. I was thinking of the SOHC 2.o motors which the 2.4 motors are based on. Turns out there is a TSB on the Cam bearing caps and the oil chamfer at teh end that does not allow enough oil in and causes the cams to rattle. She has been at teh shop for 3 days now and over the weekend now too. Suck. ---------- 04 "SRT-4" PT Cruiser w/ AutoStick (in Sea Mist Green, 1 of 146) Stage 1, Mopar BOV, MagnaFlow 2 1/2 cat back exhaust, MSD black 8.5mm wires, Stock Champion Plugs gapped at .035, S&B Cold air intake, H&R sport springs, Progress 27mm front sway bar, Energy Suspension motor mount inserts, 06' tail lights, 06' Hood emblem, T-handle on rear glass, SRT-4 badges, factory chrome accent group, chrome door cups, 8" Mopar sub, ClearBra. 205/50ZR17 Sumitomo HTRIII tires

eldersptgt was correct the the first time, the PT, SRT4 2.4L does have roller rocker arms, unlike most "Import" DOHC engines. See attached Shop manual clip: ---------- '05 GT Dream Cruiser Series 4. No.1109 My Mods PT Trailer Project Our PTs
