Other meanings are that this vehicle came out of the Plymouth design shop and was named Plymouth Truck in it's original incarnation.

Of course, we all know what happened to Plymouth when they were offering cars identical to what Dodge built and had therefore become redundant. Now GM is probably going to do the same thing, delete their brands that are too identical.

Am I mistaken in assuming that PT is an abbreviation for “platform tall “, as apposed to “platform low” PL for the Neon.

You sure dug up an old thread here.

Chrysler will tell you what Miss B posted.
But:
The PT Cruiser was to be a Plymouth.
The PT is classed as a truck.
In the late 30s and early 40s Plymouth sold pickups, PT100, PT150.
I think it is safe to say the "PT" started out as "Plymouth Truck" Had to change it when the PT became a Chrysler.

Thanks for the reply Richard.

I was aware of the 30’s & 40’s PT Plymouth trucks. I guess there is no concrete answer.

Re: [nebach] what does it mean Can't Post

I agree with Richard in Idaho. The project originally started as Plymouth Truck. After Plymouth bit the dust , they covered their.... tracks by officially saying the PT was for Personal Transportation.

I know that I have read this somewhere, but can't find or quote the source.

What ever it stands for, they have created a cult vehicle that over a million people love.

Re: [loleynik] what does it mean Can't Post

Loleynik,

I will defer to both your and Richards’ knowledge.

I recently bought a 2003 PT Cruiser Classic, Patriot Blue Pearl Coat, 5 spd, with touring suspension, 16” aluminum wheels, 60k…(I actually have the original window sticker – the previous owner was as anal as I am). I purchased this car to accommodate my 87-year-old father (he has advanced Parkinson’s, but finds it relatively easy to enter and exit). The car is a hoot to drive! I said to my self that I would never own another standard, but this car drives itself.

Re: [ptgeebee] what does it mean Can't Post

Thanks ptgeebee. I guess I made it so I couldn't trade it in. I'm a scale model hot rod builder and this is the only way I could really have myself a "hot rod". It's got all the modern conveniences, all the modern safety stuff, it had all new parts and most important, it came with a warrantee. With an old car, it usually needs a lot of work and you have to tinker around with it all the time, insurance can be a problem and replacement parts can be difficult to find. Besides I know they didn't come with air conditioning. I wound up with the best of all worlds.
