"Chrysler PT Cruiser is a celebration of automotive heritage coupled with innovation, efficiency and a twist of rebellion," Bryan Nesbitt, - PT Cruiser exterior designer.

Guess who's PT Cruiser was the one I first drove?

Bryan Nesbitt

The whole story of how and why the PT was made is nicley detailed in this book:

I'll add my 2 cents on this. I think it's the '40 ford sedan from the front door back. The '40 ford sedan had a smooth rear end from the roof to roll pan.
I still can't find anything that gets close to the front end. Although, there are a few late 40's models from all the big 3 that get close.

Flag USA My 3 cents, the best of the late 30's Fords. I agree. And I'm glad it does not have a flat-head! Cheers

Roll eyes My husband informed me just yesterday, that the man who created the PT Cruiser has now taken a job for Chevrolet & that Chrysler will no longer produce PT Cruisers & he is also in the process of creating something simular for Chevrolet. (A dodge deaker told him this) Has any one heard this to be true?

Brian Nesbitt has, indeed, been hired away (this is not news, he has been gone for about three years). The new HHR is reminiscent of an old Suburban. If the price is anything like the SSR, it will flop!

As usual, the Dodge dealer is on the cutting edge of the news. NOT!

It was at the Chicago Auto Show. It is larger than the PT. The frontend tried to copy the PT, but the rear was strickly at GM box. No price was on it. It just looks like another GM SUV with a "different" nose.

CheeringNesbit did jump ship and the Chevy PT wannabee is nothing more than that.I think that GM are Einsteins, lets build another retro car that will probably flop and compete with the Vibe, product of a PT and Matrix night of drunken sex,and the overpriced retro wheel barrel with wheels. In conclusion lets not forget about Chevys stellar quality track record and you have the makings of a winner.Right and I have seaside property in Arizona to sell you.PEACE OUT

I don't know what the PT was styled after, but the HHR looks like it was styled after a weekend of smoking crack. Dance

I think it was the '37 Ford but would guess he had a free reign at Chrysler. Would also guess that was not so at GM.Flag USA

The PT was styled after "ITSSELF". The best there is,the best there was and the best there will ever be.

Re: [1rooster] what was the pt styled after? Can't Post

Cool I agree with 1rooster, the P.T. has a style all it's own, I think that's why I loved it from the start. It has a few things about it that reminds me of several old cars. I've owned a lot of old cars in my time, 40 Ford sedan, 36 Chevy coupe, 39 Buick coupe, 32 Ford coupe and have worked on many more, the P.T. reminds me of all of them in some ways. I just like the cruiser for it's own unique style.
