Not an off the shelf turbo......
Manhattan NY, March 27/PT Cruiser Club/ -- If you are familiar with 2001-2002 PT Cruiser, you will notice a some new features on the 2003 PT Turbo model:
The powertrain is completely upgraded. The 2.4 liter DOHC engine has been redesigned to accommodate the turbo power. The engine block, crank shaft, pistons, and cylinder head have all been redesigned for durability. The turbo is integrated into the exhaust manifold for quicker boost and low emissions. The turbo provides 12.9 psi boost and is intercooled for added performance. The intake is redesigned to minimize turbo "whine". The 5 speed transmission has been made more robust by adding a Getrag heavy-duty transaxle. The automatic transmission has been upgraded from the 4 speed 41TE, to the 4 speed 41TE with AutoStick. The AutoStick shifter enables you to either power through the gears manually or cruise with the ease of the four-speed automatic. Dark Slate colored interior replaces the dark taupe/light beige used in 2001-2002 models. The 5 speed shifter ball is silver colored, replacing the light beige used in 2001-2002 models. The leather seats no longer have any suede on them. The dash inserts have a silver/carbon fiber look, instead of matching the body color used in 2001-2002 models. The "GT" floor mats are new. Performance suspension is included as a standard feature. The PT Turbo has performance tuned strut and coil assemblies, 4 wheel disc brakes, and ABS. New wheels and tires adorn the PT Turbo, the larger 5 spoke 17" wheels with P205/50HR17 tires fill the wheel opening for a better look and performance. The new exterior color is called "Electric Blue" and will also be available on 2003 PT Cruiser. The PT Turbo has body colored bumpers, front and rear. The front fascia has larger, lower openings to allow more air into the turbo intercooler. The rear fascia has a larger exhaust opening to accommodate the large diameter exhaust tip. The exhaust system has been performance tuned for a pronounced note and sporty character.
The Chrysler PT Turbo's High Output, turbocharged 2.4-liter engine creates 12.9 psi boost. 215 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 245 lb.-ft. of torque at 3600 rpm, with more than 90 percent of peak torque from 2300 to 5000 rpm. Compression ratio: 8:1:1, Max RPM - 6240, Unleaded premium 91 octane (R+M)/2 fuel is recommended.
